So, what would be the overall consensus? Which compressor is the best in the $100-$150 price range, that people haven't had any QC issues with.

Also, what exactly does the setup XY mean?? And if the two stereo small Omni Condenser mics are placed 6-8 feet from the piano, would the room mic be placed even further back?? Or where else would the room mic be placed?? Anyone got any ideas??

I heard that they used a couple of Neuman 184's in an XY, coupled with an earthworks QTC-1 room mic, direct in to their Fostex MR-8. Any suggestions to going this route?? Is this route a little too pricy??

What kind of price would you put on all this gear? I will be having to make some decisions according to priority. I think I will wait on some of the other gear I was thinking about, since piano is something I plan to incorporate in many of my songs-to-come.

But I was just wondering if anyone knew the specific gear and specific mic positioning used. Not a combination of great instruments, skill, quality gear, and some dough in a studio. I know all of that already.
