    Totally brand-spanking new at this...

No amps are needed... You can record DI (direct in) to your analog or digital recorder, or you can put a mic in front of your amp and run that into your recorder. So it could be: guitar>wah pedal>mixer>PC>recording software Or: guitar>wah>amp>mic>mixer>tape recorder>PC You'll be working with...

Trying for a natural kit sound.....

Nice job, overall... drums are the hardest for me to capture, and the mix here is just about right. A couple of things I notice that maybe don't matter to someone else, though. I like the bass drum up front in the mix, like it is here. I like to feel the "thump" right in the chest. But I think...

    mini mac

Go G5... even if you can't afford it. The mini mac as a DAW may be OK to start up, but at your age you'll outgrow it in a few months. ;)

    My iMac converts mp3s poorly

The mp3s created by iTunes... at any bitrate, 192, 160, 128 kbps sound great in iTunes, or burned to cd. Compared to the pc version they are fine. But when posted to Soundclick and re-converted by Soundclick.com at 128 kbps, which is the max they allow without paying extra, the drums sound OK...

    analog/digital

Time's a-wastin'... the analog choice won't be here forever. At mixdown, digital has many advantages. But once it's done, tape sounds the best, to me. Sure, the problem with digital recording is not in the process, but in the delivery system. 48kHz and 24 bit resolution sounds great until you...
