    Surf RUMBLE - with Prizes!

Hope I'm not too late... Track rat has a winning entry on guitar already, but I gave it a shot anywho for fun. Surfing and guitars are not my forte, I shoulda dusted off the Hammond for this one. I guess scrubs is a shoe-in for the comedy, or my download was horribly corrupted.

    My New Track

nice writing... and instrumentation. The intro could set the tone for the rest of the song by eliminating the syncopated rhythm behind the guitar IMO. It immediately tips us off that the piano is generated whereas by itself the piano is fairly rich-sounding.

    Haven't posted anything in here...

for some time. This is a little ditty turned into a song and a reprise this weekend. Very weak signal, trying to get some dynamics going...am collabing on the vocal version with a friend, this is all me. Close My Eyes (reprise)

    Just guitar and bass...

A "hard knee" kicks in immediately, and you can oftentimes hear it working, unless your signal is peaking very close to the specified cut-off dB. A soft knee is more natural-sounding, less noticable overall.

Hell yeah... if Snakedog has a B3, then use that! ;)

Needed a little help/feedback on a mix please

If this is your first engineering job... I'd say you freakin' did pretty well. It's tough to get a clean mix, and you're close, damned close. Kit sounds a bit off, that crash is a noisy thing. RAMI is an expert, try to emulate him. (check out that Highway Star cover)

Highway Star cover Colab between Rami and Nakatira...

Drums are sweet... very well done, but I gotta have those synths though, especially in the intro. I will check back after Snakedog does his thang...

    mp3's

that was awesome! Not my style of music, but really well recorded. I'd say the mix great, the drums expertly recorded. Is this in a home studio?

What physical properties must a kick drum microphone have...

Thanks for the feedback... I am leaning towards the e602, $180 and good reviews. The Shure beta 52 comes with the mic package, or can I just buy the one? On my budget I'm reluctant to go with the LDC option, I'll ruin a good mic moving all that air the way I play. That CAD e100 is a funky...

What physical properties must a kick drum microphone have...

to be a truly great kick drum mic? I have a few bills to spend, maybe $300. Right now I have two AT4040s as overheads, a 57 on the snare, and a host of cheap dynamics for the toms. I get a good sound with the dynamic inside the kick, I think, but am searching for the holy grail of kickdom...

Need advice on changing grill cloth (Ampeg 4x10)

Use the old cloth to cut the new one almost done...just re-assemble and voila! Not bad for a 2 year old cabinet, total cost including new cloth, $70. ;)

Need advice on changing grill cloth (Ampeg 4x10)

Remove old grill cloth the fool I got it from had painted the name of his band on the cloth, some of it had bled through to the baffle and had to be repainted.

Need advice on changing grill cloth (Ampeg 4x10)

front baffle slides out pretty slick design, the baffle is angled for acoustic purposes, but that allows the baffle to slide out with the speakers attatched.

Handles come off to allow the front baffle to slide out.
