malcolm123...here the reason I'm asking:
I have multiple layers of big loud ass distorted guitars that sound good, but are dominating the mix. I'm going to try to put those guitars in a bus and get the kick or bass to duck those tracks to bring out more of the rhythm section without altering...
well....I read that....and thanks...but I have to admit I'm still a little lost. Do you have two inputs from the source....one triggering the compressor and one actually printing the track?
Also, what do they mean in the second paragraph by "plug the source into the inputs and plug the trigger...
In the quote below, how does one set up a compressor for a track (like vocal, kick, or cymbals) to duck the other tracks as they suggest?
"For the insistent guitar army, a good trick is to take all the extra non-essential parts out on the same bus and have a compressor keyed by the vocal...
I just got the VTB-1 preamp. It has a phase reversal switch (Pol Rev). In what application would this be used? I double track unison vocals a lot....sometimes they are too phasey sounding. If I switch the polarity on the second take, would that eliminate the problem?
I've just received...
I've never used an outboard unit for A/D conversion before, so forgive me if this question sounds a bit newbie-ish.
When you use an outboard A/D converter, how does your existing sound card handle the datastream? Would it just pass the data unaffected or does that datastream get changed in any...
What about :
Lucid Receptor A/D 9624 | Lucid Receptor Series
or
Lucid Scepter A/D 9624 | Lucid Scepter Series
or
Lucid Evolution A/D 9624 | Lucid Evolution Series
or
Lucid Neo A/D
Check out the Lucid 9624 A/D
Mikey,
I'm shopping for converters as well.....Apogee MiniMe was my first choice, but then I saw the Lucid 9624. I've read nothing but great reviews and have received several first hand users accounts about the unit. Nothing but glowing praise for the sound...
I've been looking at the Lucid 9624 A/D converter as a possible upgrade to an Audiophile 2496 soundcard. It's a great sounding inexpensive soundcard. How much difference can really be heard between the two? Are we talking about barely audible differences or is it really that pronounced?
that's good to know...I'll probably check out the RNP as soon point...however I stated in the original post I'm looking primarily for the best *vocal* preamp I can get my hands on....so it sounds like the Voicemaster still ahead of the RNP.
Willovercome,
Would you say the Voicemaster handles...
Hey Dr_simon
Is that the optional card that's available for this unit?
24/44.1-96 S/PDIF card 230 USD
I was looking at buying an A/D converter as well....I wonder if that would still be necessary if I purhcased this unit with the card? What do you think?
I just saw this:
DBX 376 Tube Channel Processor : $499 it has a compressor AND De-esser.....that's a big plus.
Anybody used this before? Can anyone compare the sounds quality of this unit to the VTB-1 or HHB Radius 40? I've heard the HHB Radius 40 unit before, but not the VTB-1...
I'm shopping for a preamp that I will use primarily for vocals and acoustic guitar. I was looking at the HHB Radius 40 (preamp/compressor/EQ), until I read two articles by Dan Richards and Harvey Gerst reviewing the Studio Projects VTB-1. They both like the Studio Projects unit a lot and had...
Here's a pretty interesting review of some monitor choices

Below is an excerpt from an article someone wrote about their EQing process:
"Use a sweep mid band, and jack up the Q (i.e. narrow the bandwidth) for that band almost all the way up. Sweep the frequency until you find the point at which that signal is loudest. This is the characteristic...
DeadPoet,
I'm always on the look out for sources like this. Post more if you have them.
DaffyDrunk,
The Yamaha MG32/14FX 32 look REALLY interesting. Thanks for the tip. I don't think the mixer has been released yet though....I'd like to read a hands-on review. Also, I've heard sketchy...
