shure ksm27 or AT 4040 for acoustic guitar

Anyone have any suggestions on the Shure KSM27 or the AT 4040 for solo acoustic guitar. A buddy is selling a KSM 27 used for a good price, so i was thinking about picking it up. I am looking for something to record solo fingerstyle steel string guitar. The reviews of the 27 looked good. My...

    DAW software for Windows

Was reading about the 002 Rack. I forgot about the four additional 1/4" analog ins. So they would require a preamp before hooking up a mic. So not to bad i guess. Its just a matter of if i wanna stay with PT or not i guess. anton

    DAW software for Windows

Checked out Sonar 5 Producer edition today. I have been using Pro Tools with my Mbox on PC for a few years but have recently been thinking about an interface with more inputs. I can upgrade to a Digi 002 rack which the 4 XLR's plus the other inputs, but what if i want more than that? The...

    Presonus Firebox vs Mbox

I guess its probably perhaps more of my recording technique. I have heard other people who just mess around with home recording get results much better than mine. http://www.antonemery.com/inion2.mp3 The above mp3 is two MXL 603's in XY, i think a foot or so away. I think i picked up to...

    Presonus Firebox vs Mbox

How does the Preonus Firebox compare to the original Mbox? I have the original Mbox and i must say i am not to happy with the quality of sound i am getting. I would say its me but i have heard people with similar/lesser rigs get much better sound than i am getting. Was thinking about...

    Edirol FA-66

Does anyone have any experience with this unit? I have the older version Mbox and i am just not happy with the quality i am getting. I was thinking about getting the Edirol FA-66 but then i would have to get some sort of software too. Perhaps Sonar. Or i could just wait and get a Digi 002...

    MOTU and PC compatible?

Thats cool. So i want to get a MOTU system i will have to use something different than Pro Tools. Its kind of hard to get away from Pro Tools, because that is what i am used to using. Are there Windows multitracking programs that are comporable to PT? Perhaps Sonar or something?

    MOTU and PC compatible?

Are the MOTU hardware interfaces compatible with Pro Tools, or any other PC mulitracking software? I currently have an Mbox but am thinking about upgrading soon. I figured i would just get Digi 002 Rack, but alot of people like the MOTU stuff, so i figured its worth a look. I guess its...

laptop recording setup, PC or Mac?

I meant edit audio. Like comping vocal or guitar tracks. I would not expect to do any serious mixing or eq'ing with headphones. I will keep that in mind, i did not think about the crappy converers on a sound card. anton

laptop recording setup, PC or Mac?

Hi everyone, I have been thinking about purchasing a laptop recording setup sometime. There are times when i am in a nice sounding room and would like to come back with a laptop and some mics. I currently have a Windows PC and an Mbox. I was thinking about just getting a Windows laptop and i...

    Avenson Audio STO-2

Yea, i have putting my time in with the metronome recently. At a guitar camp one of the teachers said i am a good player, but it always sounds like i am on the edge of my ability. So i have been slowing my pieces down and playing with the metronome to hopefully gain more control. Thanks for...

    Avenson Audio STO-2

thanks Thanks for advice on the Avensons. I am just a home recording hobbyist and have the 603's, a DMP3, an Mbox, and a pair of KRK RP5's. I basically bought the 603's because alot of people were saying that they are great on acoustic guitar, and i needed a budget pair of mics to get me...

    Avenson Audio STO-2

Thanks for that link. Being that i am doing solo acoustic guitar arrangements i have focused on stereo for that big sound. My MXL 603's sound ok on acoustic, but i cant quite get the sound i want. Probably need to work more on mic placement. I was looking at the Avensons or perhaps an LDC...

Need preamp to complement my Mbox

dmp3 Got my dmp3 and did some test recording yesterday. Here is an example of the results i got. www.antonemery.com/inion2.mp3 the MXL's are in a XY config about two feet away. Gain on the Mbox is at about half way, and the DMP3 is cranked to almost full. The DMP3 sure made the signal much...

Need preamp to complement my Mbox

dmp3 Just ordered a DMP3, so we'll see how it works out. Do i have to turn phantom power on it and on my Mbox to power my Mics, or should i only turn it on at one of them? thanks anton

need a more sensitive mic for fingerstyle guitar

Thanks again for the advice. I am trying to work on my playing as well, trying to get an hour a day in with the metronome, playing my fingerstyle arrangements at a slow pace. Thanks for the suggestion about my volume level, i will keep it in mind. Guess i will get a DMP3 to hopefully make...

need a more sensitive mic for fingerstyle guitar

pre Yea, the Mbox is 48V phantom power. I think i will pick up a dmp3 soon. Its possible the pre in the mbox is broke, but it sounds fine when i play flute, which gives out a much stronger signal. i think its just the light touch of my fingerstyle playing needs a hotter signal. anton

need a more sensitive mic for fingerstyle guitar

thanks Thanks for the advice. Guess i will pickup a DMP3 to give myself some more gain. I think the DMP3 maxes out at 66db, and the Mbox pre's go no higher than 50db. So if i go Mic-DMP3-Mbox, and raise the gain beyond 50db with DMP3, will it be to strong for the Mbox? thanks anton

need a more sensitive mic for fingerstyle guitar

I guess its more of a sound prespective issue. The tone is fine, to me it just sounds like the listener is right up two inches from guitar. Here is a recording my buddy did with a Larrivee L-03R guitar, an Earthworks SRO into a Digitube Pre and direct into some sort of cd burner...
