Using the EMU 0404 USB soundcard with Win7

Agreed. I wouldn't be buying anything from them again, although I have absolutely no complaints on their product that I bought (other than support).

E-MU 0404 USB into a faster PC. higher latency?

Hi all, Just fired up my E-MU 0404 USB on a new faster PC. Just going through the initial setup. There's a screen in Cubase that gives you latency figures when you set the ASIO driver. On the old machine these figures were input latency 7.868 output latency 10.884 .. and on the faster...

Using the EMU 0404 USB soundcard with Win7

E-MU 0404 usb works under Windows 7 for non-SPDIF Results time. Reading around the web, I had a lot of worry about my E-MU 0404 USB and it's compatibility with Windows 7 64--bit. I was quite prepared for failure and was ready to buy another device. But, surprise! Just got a new PC. Windows...

    Much thanks for that. Cheers.

A/D converter quality, E-MU vs Focusrite

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, You hear people talk about converter quality. You never know if it's relevant to you or not. The Focusrite is a lot cheaper than the 0404 was but (as the trend has been) you get better gear for cheaper these days. Yes, the 2i4 has the blend. Glad to see you're...

A/D converter quality, E-MU vs Focusrite

Hi all, Upgraded the PC and don't know if I'll be successful getting my E-MU 0404 USB to work with W7 64bit. Looking around the web, I'd say chances are low. So, if I'm up for an upgrade the Focisrite procucts look ok. At least they provide drivers for W7 (thanks for nothin' Creative). Can...

Using the EMU 0404 USB soundcard with Win7

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the PCI and USB versions are different animals, if I understand it correctly. I haven't read one success story on the web yet for 0404 USB and W7. :(

Using the EMU 0404 USB soundcard with Win7

Yup. I'm now int he same boat since my current PC is on it's last legs. I really don't want to buy brand new fast hardware and run XP just because Creative are useless at providing new drivers. I'm very unhappy to find a world of troubled posts around the web for e-mu 0404 USB and windows 7...

Old dog, new tricks - improve vocal range?

Nope. It's just a fun home recording. I'll take the best bits of 5 vocal takes for the main parts and for the difficult stuff I'll chip away at indefinitely untill I nail just one - you know, like I always do. It's the luxury of time. :)

Boffins needed - technical challenge for impossible vocal parts

Hey Bob, just out of curiosity, If you and I were in the middle of the forrest (ie, no music source around) and I asked you to whistle or sing me a 'E' note, could you?

How to handle wildly dynamic mic input from vocals ?

Ok, making progress. Reading around the web, I'm seeing advice that mouth to mic distance should be 6 to 9 inches. I'm sure all of the articles are most basic of guides and real engineers could speak for a day on the subject but for me this is the start. I'll have to see how close I can get my...

Boffins needed - technical challenge for impossible vocal parts

Doh, I thought OP was the moderator for some reason. I would notice if something played and it wasn't in the original key, it would just stand out like dog's balls. Anyway, lowering the key just moves the problem more to the other end and makes the lower parts harder. Must be original pitch.

How to handle wildly dynamic mic input from vocals ?

So, who has written the "Auto Volume Automation" function? We need a function that gives you a algorithm based 'best guess' at what the volume automation should be, along with some control parameters steer the outcome to your liking. Enthusiasts and developers, take note! I'm glad you mentioned...

Boffins needed - technical challenge for impossible vocal parts

Right, Just tried singing 2 semitones lower and changing pitch up with Melodyne plugin to suit the song. I'm actually seriously impressed with the result from Melodyne and what they've achieved. But no, the quality changes too much and it just doesn't sound like me singing. You were right, it...

Boffins needed - technical challenge for impossible vocal parts

Yup me too. That why I'm a bit excited at this Melodyne plugin that changes 'character of voice' to compensate for that. Still, I predict the quality will suffer too much to be usable but I'll know after I get some time to test it out. No. Not that I know of, well at least not my old version...

How to handle wildly dynamic mic input from vocals ?

Thanks for your input. It's the USB version. .. and I probably wouldn't buy hardware anyway. I'm very happy with the idea of managing it with the compressors and maybe even the twin mic thing when I've sorted out the distance-> 2 mic thing.

How to handle wildly dynamic mic input from vocals ?

So, distance from mouth to mic ? Previously I've been keeping about 450mm (about 18 inches). Is this personal preference or is there some method here?

How to handle wildly dynamic mic input from vocals ?

Maybe if I didn't have to work during the day! It will be months of parts of weekends... and fun.

How to handle wildly dynamic mic input from vocals ?

No time for clipping. It's a Queen tune, so many many vocal parts. The wrole thing will take months as it is....
