Pan extreme right, but doesn't seem panned as much as other recordings

Cheers guys. Ahhh, If I only had 4 vocal tracks. Currently I have over 20 vocal tracks which have a whole bunch of stuff done to them. That's not to say that I have over 20 vocal parts playing at the same time (8 or 9 maximum), I just use extra tracks so I can group the tracks in some sort of...

Pan extreme right, but doesn't seem panned as much as other recordings

Thanks for the replys. I'm trying to grasp, but I'm failing. I have a four part harmony. 4 tracks group to 1 fader (group) which has the (stereo) reverb effects. I want to pan two of the track to hard (L) and hard (R) but (as suggested) have the effects pan aswell. I'll *have* to change this...

Pan extreme right, but doesn't seem panned as much as other recordings

Hi all, I'm mixing a song at the moment and I have vocal parts that get's panned to the extreme right and left. The reason I'm posting is that I notice in other professionally recorded songs that panned voices sould like they are at the extreme "ends" of the panning range but when I try to...

    Mix harmonys centred vs spread

Hi all, A quick question to perhaps spark some discussion. If you mix (for example) 4 vocal harmonys when they are all centred, is there some engineering rule of thumb to say that those same levels will work when you pan some of them to get some spread? FM

How to tame multi Vocal tracks, VOl, EQ

An update on the big project. i have now (finally) finished all vocal tracks. There are ... a lot. I'm having my first ever trouble with channel level - I'll explain. With so many vocal tracks doing different things , I thought I'd double up on the uses yeah? So I have one group of 5 part...

    Recording Bass Guitar

I've just been down this road, being relatively new to bass. I've spent about 18 months. Things I've been told by people smarter than me: Both DI and mic'd cab contribute differently to the sound. So Ideally use both. Things I've discovered: DI is much more controllable as far as even...

How to tame multi Vocal tracks, VOl, EQ

Thanks Elton. Yes, It's my biggest "engineering" task yet. I'll give you a quick example of what I'm up against. 4 vocal parts, lets call them Low, medium Low, Medium high and high, with 1 panning left, 2 centre and 1 Panning right. Then, in some cases the parts will be center and not panned...

How to tame multi Vocal tracks, VOl, EQ

More tracking last night. It's sounding really good :) I'd like some comments on the above. Would you guys (typically) be EQ-ing a group of voices, or each voice? FM

How to tame multi Vocal tracks, VOl, EQ

Hehe, "Frankenslide". I got a new PC with heaps of power, so I'm not forced to bounce. I'll group all the multi parts into one fader in the most logical mannor that I can, but for flexibility I'll be able to go back to modify it if needed. That's really why I tried to kick off this thread. I'd...

How to tame multi Vocal tracks, VOl, EQ

Ok, well is this the best bet - Go over all harmony parts with fader automation until they are balanced and level in volume - same for the main vocal - Group the harmony parts into one channel and apply EQ and (slight amount of) compression there - Automate the fader for the group for the (now...

How to tame multi Vocal tracks, VOl, EQ

Thanks for your effort! As far as I know with my old version of Cubase, I can't do this. But I will be investigating. In older projects, I've done this by selecting the word and permanently lowered the wav by xdB. I thought the automated fader would save me doing this, and be less destructive...

How to tame multi Vocal tracks, VOl, EQ

It's everywhere. Think something like Bohemian. Multi vocals, panning, overlapping, some split stereo, some centred, some with backing, some no backing. You name it.... Yeah, I'd like to have one track per part, but that becomes a but harder to manage when that one part serves different...

How to tame multi Vocal tracks, VOl, EQ

... ok. So lets assume that normalize is not what I'm going to do. Actually thinking about it, that still wouldn't get me to where I need to be because the 4 and 5 part harmonys will need different volumes on different parts any way. I'll come clean. This project was sung in different stages...

How to tame multi Vocal tracks, VOl, EQ

Hi all, I've got a bunch of raw vocal tracks, with quite widely varying volumes etc. Yes, It would have been better to have it done properly with real singers and real engineers but that's not what happened! It's a case where very high and very low vocal parts are soft and are less constant...

EZDrummer or Superior Drummer - in terms of "ease of use"

Much thanks. I saw the EZ drummer interface last night and it is *very* simple, but effective. I think SD is the go. Actually, I'm seriously impressed with the sound from Toontrack. Thanks all.

EZDrummer or Superior Drummer - in terms of "ease of use"

Ooooh, we are getting close. RE: Superior, what do you mean "Mix to taste" ? Are you saying that there *must* be some time spent to address mixing, or is this just a benefit in case you need to address sonic issues? All my projects have evolved in the same way. Stock drums get loaded with...

EZDrummer or Superior Drummer - in terms of "ease of use"

Hi all, I've read around the forums. The massive thread on EZDrummer vs SD here that was great. But I'm still lacking an understanding of the functionality of the two, specifically due to this page... ttp://www.toontrack.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=104414&mpage=1&key=&#104414 .. where this guys...

E-MU 0404 USB into a faster PC. higher latency?

Optimized? I'm about to get flamed aren't I... new PC is i5 3570. In rough figures, would be something like 8 times the the CPU number crunching power of the old, not to mention gains in I/O speed. How do you optimize?
