    Cab ohms vs. amp watts

No, sorry, but 300W at 4 ohms is not louder than 150W at 8 ohms. They are the same. I have no idea what you mean by sensitivity, but if you mean that both loads are 8 ohms, then yes, 300W is louder than 150W. Fairview is correct when he says that if you want more sound, then get more speakers...

    Cab ohms vs. amp watts

Ok, quick electronics lesson. Power (watts) is the voltage (volts) times the current (amps) accross a given load (ohms). If you reduce your load by half, you will double your power (4 ohms @300W = 8 ohms @150W). That is why your power rating will drop, but in reality, you are still delivering...

recommend some good blues songs please

No, no, I was saying that the John Lee song was my favorite blues song, but he did not appear at the crossroads festival. lol, you are correct when you say it would have been dificult for him to do that. For what it's worth, I am seeing Johnny Lang next month. Looking forward to that one.

recommend some good blues songs please

If you are just starting out, get the crossroads DVD. It has many of the names above and is all blues. My personal favorite blues song is the healer by John Lee Hooker playing with the Santana band. Carlos plays lead and John Lee sings. It's blues with that south of the border rythem section...

    Most Overrated/Overpriced Electric Guitars

I can't believe how much you all whine about the prices today. You are the ones spending the money. It's your choice what you buy and play. Gibson, fender and prs are only overpriced because you are comparing it to a schector. Let's get real here people, the gibson is built in the US where we...

For those with vintage instruments...Do you play them?

You know, the other thing I forgot is that you can make the same money with a $300 mexi strat and still have the original 10K investment. Besides that, it just doesn't make sense to me to gig with a work of art. Maybe 1 in 200 people will even be able to tell the difference between vintage and...

For those with vintage instruments...Do you play them?

Lmao, what an optimous........ What about the loan you had to take out on the axe to get it originally. How about the beer that got spilled on it the third gig and made you replace the pots and switch (oops, not original vintage now). Or how about the 20 weekends that you didn't play. I play my...

For those with vintage instruments...Do you play them?

I don't see why you all get upset with someone who wants to put a guitar behind glass. It's their money and their choice. Think about this, really talented musicians, generally speaking, are poor and broke and can't afford to spend 5-10k on an axe. Collectors on the other hand, usually have a...

How to Ground an old Tube Amp

Yes, it is just as easy as that. I have been a tech since the mid 70's and it has always worked for me. Boingoman is also correct when he says that when you replace the 2 prong with a 3 prong, you do need to watch the polarity. You know, electricity is not a mystery. People are generally afraid...

    Most enviable/sought after guitar tone

Yep, the SRV tone is always sought after. The reason no one can seem to get it just right, is the strings he used and, of course his tallent.

How to Ground an old Tube Amp

Just hook the ground wire to the chassis. Pick a screw on the back of the amp that goes into metal and attach your ground wire to that. That ground wire on a 3 prong plug, is there to take any shock from the chassis, which you can touch, and give it a path ground, so the shock doesn't go through...

For those with vintage instruments...Do you play them?

Play them???? Hell yes. I have a number of vintage axes and I play them all. I have been collecting for 30 years now. I have always made money on trades and sales on my vintage stuff. Now as far as playing them, do you think that holding something worth a lot, makes you play better? I don't...

    one watt or less head

You could just run a very small speaker to resolve the load issue, then use the line out. You can probably pick up a 10W, 8ohm, 3 inch speaker at radio shack for about $5-10.

    Acoustic recording options:

I use 3 mics and the pickup for recording on 4 seperate channels. Then I can listen to it, reballance it, and mix them down into 2 tracks. I get great results.

    Ears

I think he just tuned to his own voice. I am still amazed that if you ask most drummers, they will tune to "what sounds good" instead of tuning a C# or whatever.

    Ears

A guitar instructor that I had many years ago had a good and easy solution. I had the exact problem. He told me to start playing my scales and hum to them. It gets your mind to relate making the sound with hearing the sound, with playing the sound. It kind of syncs your brain and it does work...

Single / Dual / Triple Rectifier

Let's set the record straight here. I have a triple rect and a Marshall TSL.( http://home.comcast.net/~bonrox/guitars/gut_inv.htm )They are very different sounding amps. You can get the Mesa to sound like the Marshall, or at least close to it, but you cannot get the Marshall to act like the...

    Drum Tuning Notes

Just a side note, the cymbols are tuned as well. You may want to tune to what sounds good with the cymbols that you have. There are limits to which your drums will sound good. I have 7 toms which I tune to C Major (E to D) with the snare tuned to A. Rides are C and Eb, crashes are C, E, F, dark...
