    f***in' real guitars & amps

Oh, good eye. Yes, that is a "Real Guitar". A 24 fret, SG 12 string from Gibson's custom shop. It is the only one Gibson ever made. I had it made a few years back. If you have ever played their doubleneck, you know the weight is a killer, but the sound is worth the pain of holding it. I...

Actually, chicks really dig the real thing!! Marshall and Mesa, Gibsons and Fenders, Long legged ladies and Lingerie. When it all comes together, it is good!! Fuck that cheap stuff, get the real deal. It pays in the end!!

    Replacing a Shattered Neck? (Cheaply?)

Hey as long as it fits.... One thing to watch is the scale length. Make sure that the new length matches the old one. Measure from nut to bridge.

    Timing? BPM?

Actually, one of the songs on Dark Side of the Moon (can't recall the exact one) is written in 7 beats per measure and goes to 8 for the guitar solo and back to 7 again, keeping the same tempo. It gives that jazzy sound, to hard rock and back to jazzy. You may want to experiment with that also.

whats the deal with "the marshall sound"

I guess I am the only one that knows Funeral For A Friend is an Elton John song. Can I suggest a sonic maximiser from BBE (482i). I have one with my TSL100 and it does crank with my Fenders as well as my Gibsons. Scoop out the mids and use a half stack for the sound you are talking about.

Does anyone care what anyone thinks?

Well, Dogman might have a good avatar, but I have the real deal!!

    Gibson quality - dead horse

The price you pay for a guitar is based on 2 things, what someone will sell it for, and what someone will pay for it. It is that simple!! I own a number of Gibsons, Fenders, PRS, Shectors, Samicks and others. New ones, old ones, factory and customs. I can tell you that all of them have QC...

    Most Overrated/Overpriced Electric Guitars

No, I am not. She was not even alive when I bought the 150DC.

    Most Overrated/Overpriced Electric Guitars

All I can say is, if Gibsons are not worth the asking price, no one would buy them. While I am sure their market share may go down a bit, they are still in business. The market is what drives the price, and the market says that given a choice between a Black Beauty and a Washburn look alike...

    tuning drums to actual notes

You don't need to tune drums to a given scale, but you do need to tune them to a true note. Anotherwords, tune it to a guitar or whatever, to make sure that your 'A' drum, is in tune with the other insturments. This is what will make your "drums sound good".

Why does everybody hate direct boxes here?

The only thing I can add to Richard, is that the speakers you use, are part of the sound, and that is what the DI eliminates.

Whats the deal with fenders S-1 switch?

I have a deluxe strat and I can tell you, Yes, it is worth it. It basically takes your 5 position toggle and makes it 7 combinations.

Head/cab vs combo... whats the benefit?

There is a difference in sound since combo's have to have some opening in order for the amp to breath. To my knowledge, there is no closed off speker section in any combo I have ever seen, but I may be wrong on that. I personally like a head and cab.

    Electric Guitar quesdion

Yea, I did the cassette thing too, except I put in a match pack in the write tab sensor so I wouldn't need a cassette in it. Now I never did the headphone thing, but that sounds really cool....

    Electric Guitar quesdion

Well you all will laugh, but my first amp was a 1950ish tube stereo amp. I think it had a 78 speed record player on it. Anyway, I soldered together an RCA jack to a 1/4" jack and plugged it into my strat. It was really cool, the tubes would glow more with more power. Awsome effect.... Too bad it...

Do The Americas Really Have All The Best Wood?

I don't think it has anything to do with the woods or the skills. It has to do with where the largest markets have been at for the past 50 years, which is the US market. Manufacturing costs are probably about 25% of the total costs. Marketting, materials, shipping, taxes, etc... are where the...

Best Stomp box distortion for blues?

Try lookig at a Black Finger tube compressor. It's got a great gain section on it. I run it with my Marshall TSL100 and just love it. It has 2 tubes with pre and post gains on it, and a very, very wide range from clean-clean to total driving. The only other thing that I run is a BBE maximiser...

Huge influx of idiots to the forum? or just me?

Music is what you make it out to be. I went to a friends show recently. He asked if I liked the new riffs in his one song. The lady I was with, broke out in tears when she heard the lyrics to his song. I noticed that a number of people went to get a beer when he played his new tune. So we all...
