    Drum recording, limited mics

Look at a Shure Beta 52 for the kick. It's also very good for micing bass and guitar cabinets.

    speeding tips

Agreed!!! Rudiments are the key to speed!!! Practiced correctly!!! Practice them for 20 minutes or so a day, then work them into your fills.

    more important: guitar or amp?

It's about a matched pair, the player and the sound. The sound is made by the guitar, boxes, amps, chords and so on.... Since they are all in the chain of creating the sound, the chord you use is as important as the guitar when you look at it from a sound perspective!! Stage Presence is...

    damn hum

Just run a ground wire from your amp to all of your boxes. Ground the chassis on each and every piece and the hum will go away.

    Roland GR1 guitar synth???

You are correct in what you are saying. The biggest problem, with a lot of early devices, is that the midi packect they send has limited "touch" to them. sorry, but I am a bit brain dead right now and can't find the right word, but by touch I mean on a keyboard, the harder you press the louder...

    Roland GR1 guitar synth???

It's a cool toy to have, but I would only offer him $125 at the most. It's older technology and has some latency issues. But like I said, it's a blast to play with, especially if you have a keyboard you can plug it into and use the insturments on the keyboard also. I have a GR09 on one of my...

    Neeed micing and tuning recomendations

I am new to drums and looking for some advise. My kit has 2-kicks, 7 toms (8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16), 1 snare, 1 hihat, 2 rides, 2 crash, 1 splash. First off, I am a guitar player, so I looked at the tuning from a guitarist's perspective and basically tuned the 7 toms (tops and bottoms) to an...

Does anyone make their own guitars?

I take it, you are talking electrics. Acoustics are something that you can spend thousands in equipment and wood, and you will still not come out with a product anywhere close to what you can buy it for. That said, for some semi decent material and electronics, you are looking at about $600 for...

    OD/Distortion Pedals

That is a very excellent point. There was a post a few months ago about how to use a tube amp. The basics to overdrive is as follows. You have a gain knob and a master volumn. If the gain is at 10 and the master is at 1 you get a fuzzier OD. If the gain is set to 1 and the master to 10, you gat...

    OD/Distortion Pedals

Yep, get a good tube amp. You can use whatever pedal you want and you will not get what you want. The only way to do it is by a tube amp!!!

    A's or E's?

I realize I have not been playing drums for a week yet, but I have been playing guitars and gigging for 30 years. In that time I have seen one drummer who liked the sound of his cooking pot, so he mounted to his kit. I have seen wood blocks, pieces of tin and many other things. The one nice...

What acoustic guitar record best ?

Hey, I will tell you, I love recording with my Taylor 814CE, but most upper end accoustics have advantages and disadvantages. I have never had a problem recording anything that sounded good naturally. You can do a lot with mics and electronics.

    drums for my son

Learning drums is about learning coordination and getting 4 limbs doing 4 things at the same time. So realistically, a set of pots would do for learning on. So getting a cheap set will sufice. You won't get any resale value with anything, unless you are willing to drop over $2,000. So don't...

    halfstack

Hey guys, I have been playing for 30 years now. I have been through a lot of different amps. Don't screw around, get a Marshall or Mesa. You will spend 1500, but then you won't spend anymore!! Go for the real thing, get the tubes, the power and the sound that others try to emulate.

To any and all drummers... a story, and some questions...

Hey Paul, here is a link (http://www.studydrums.com/dapp01.html). Now I don't know where I fall on the learning scale, exceptional or average or whatever. But I went out and bought a kit (http://home.comcast.net/~bonrox/guitars/drums.htm) on friday and I am writing this on sunday. At this...

    Recomendations

Ok guys, I picked them up tonight. I got the Pearl cuistom masters, all Sabin symbols (20 HH ride, 18 & 16 AAX studio and 14 AAX hi-hat) and a Pearl maple 5 in. high snare. Thanks for all your input!!! http://home.comcast.net/~bonrox/guitars/drums.htm

    Recomendations

Ok, grrrrrrrr does cover it. I actually collect guitars and stuff (http://home.comcast.net/~bonrox/guitars/gut_inv.htm) and want a good set to go with everything else. I have been playing and giging for 30 some years and in all that time, I never wanted to pick up a set of sticks. Over the past...
