    XP vs. 7?

+1 External drives are cheap enough right now to do this too.

Pedal vs. rack compressors...and which do you use?

I also have one of the old (or is it vintage) MXR Dynacomp pedals for 'live' playing, but use the Waves plug-ins for recording.

Korg does make some good products. I recently was using a friend's Pedersen clip-on with an acoustic and it worked really well too. StroboClip

Help out a non-Guitar player with a tone question...

Hughes & Kettner used to make a device called "The Red Box" which sounded great for DI tracking. I think they're discontinued, but you could probably find one if you looked hard enough...and worth it! This one ----> Hughes and Kettner Red Box Classic DI at zZounds

What Is A Good Interface For Recording In My Home Studio?

The Lexicon and PreSonus interfaces are built well, have a good rep and have been around for quite awhile now. The Mic pre-amps in the PreSonus units are quite nice!

Regarding your second issue, It's been awhile since I've used that program, but I believe in your "preferences" you should be able to check or uncheck something that indicates "software playthrough" or similiar. Good luck!

    Budget Tele

We stopped at a music store this morning and a guy was just trading in a FSR Ash Body Tele towards a Gibby. He was saying about how he preferred humbuckers. Long story short, scored this lightly played Tele for $275. I guess I'm a sucker for a good lookin' Tele. ;)...
