    Satisfy my curiousity please!

To be honest I expected it to be more expensive than that. Can anyone shed any light on how the process works? Presumably the surround sound signal gets encoded somehow on a normal stereo audio track (i.e. left and right tracks on a video tape or whatever)??

    Satisfy my curiousity please!

Here's a question: How would somebody go about mixing a surround sound mix either on music or for a video sound track? Presumably you need dedicated equipment but does anyone know what or how much it would cost? Im mostly just curious but cant help thinking how cool a surround sound mix on the...

    7 String Acoustic??

Slack the problem you describe is one I experience on a regular basis when I switch from my 5 string bass to a 4 string or, worse yet a guitar...(which i am still learning to play).. the absence of that low b is just as confusing as its appearance.. trust me!

    Fender Bass

$250 seems a pretty good price for a 5 string to my mind but I personally am not impressed by most of the squier basses I have seen so my recommendation would be to try one first. I had a Squier 4 string when I first started it and I found it heavy, cumbersome and.. well... cheap. My 5 string is...

    Strings thru body bass

Maybe its me being dense........ I'm not convinced that thru-body stringing will result in an effective increase in scale lenght. I was under the impression the scale was the "speaking" length of the string i.e nut to the bridge saddle. Even if the strings are fixed through the body wont the...

    Am I nuts?

Insure it. Dunno how available this sort of service is outside the UK but I know the local music store has flyers advertising a company that insures your equipment (not just instruments but mixers, pa, etc) for gigging or just in home or whatever. Would be worth investigating methinks.

Can someone please explain how SPDIF works?

Spider: I have an ISIS card too... as far as I can see (I haven't used them either so don't quote me on this) the SPDIF connections can be used to either mix down to or mix down from using other equipment thats compatible. I dont think you could shift 8 tracks across in a block like you...

    Am I nuts?

Definitely buy it. I want a Music Man bass which costs around £1000 ($1500 US equivalent) and if I could afford it I would have one in an instant. In fact I nearly took one on a year's interest free credit but a friend of mine dragged me from the store before I signed on the proverbial dotted...

    bass guitar for begginner

I started out on a cheap Jim Deacon P-Bass copy. It was a 4 string but I have since moved onto a 5 string and am starting to contemplate getting a 6. I would recommend starting on a fretted bass and getting your technique down so that it is easier to move onto the fretless model in the future...

    flat-voice syndrome?

Didn't I read a post somewhere on this BB before about how when we listen to things through headphones we get a false representation of pitch or something? So singers often end up flat? I could have sworn I saw something along those lines... damn wish I could remember more. Something about...

    Recording to PC

We actually recorded some clean guitar sounds DI using the lineouts from the amps and it sounded ok it was just the distortion that was awful. I reckon that could well be down to the fact (in my opinion)that the amp speaker has a lot to do with a nice distorted tone. Take it out of the loop...

    Recording to PC

I'll second Pglewis on this one. When my band made its first recording experiments on a 4-track (before we had a mic)the distorted guitars sounded like someone playing a comb with tissue paper wrapped around it... or some kinda crippled fly or something. Mic up an amp its the only way to go!

    Most Loved Song...

"Planet Caravan" by the mighty Black Sabbath I think it is safe to say that crosses many boundaries and can be loved by all, no?

    Fretless bass players? (strings)

I believe Rotosound do a range called Trubass which have a black nylon (i think its nylon) coating... probably a similar concept. Dont ask me how good they are I've always wanted a fretless but can't afford one. :(
