    Q vs. bandwith

I have a digital work station I use. I don't want to have to buy an outboard EQ so I can understand Q, and I can't use plug-ins.

    Q vs. bandwith

OK, here is my situation. I know I just need to start using parametric EQ and learn from experience. But I have some guide lines I am trying to use as a starting point. For example, if I want to boost "5K-8K, carefully", what does this mean? Start with a one db boost=carefully, and then...

    Q vs. bandwith

I know that by adjusting the Q, one is adjusting the bandwith. But, how do Q and bandwith exactly relate to each other. What does one unit of Q equal in actual bandwith Hz?

    Stellar RM-5 ribbon mic

I recently bought a Stellar RM-5. I have not had a chance to really try it out, can't say if I like it yet. Also, it is my first ribbon mic, so I don't have another to which I can compare it. After reading posts here about the Nady ribbons and the Cascade Fat Head, and their ribbons, I...

    testing capsule in condenser mic

If anyone cares, I finally fixed the mic. It ended up not being a bad zener(checked it again when I wasn't so tired, the meter was set in the wrong mode), but was a shorted .01 uf cap off of the power supply to the plate resistor. Shorted all the voltage to ground. MXL wouldn't give me a copy...

    testing capsule in condenser mic

well, hopefully I have found the problem. A zener diode is no good on the board. I am going to get a new one today, put it in tonight and cross my fingers that that is the only issue.

    testing capsule in condenser mic

Philgood, I don't think there is any use in doing anything unless and until I can get that plate voltage figured out. No tube is gong to work with 4.5v. I already tried a known good tube, to no avail. I am going to pull apart the guts of the mic a little further so I can see where the wires...

    testing capsule in condenser mic

Well, I've got (looking clockwise at the end of the cable to the mic), 212vdc,8.9vdc, 212vdc, ground, and the last two have no voltage, I assume that they are the signal returns from the mic. However, at the tube, I only have 4.4vdc on the plates. The heater has about 6vdc on it, and the tube...

    testing capsule in condenser mic

I'll do that when I get home tonight. I'll open up the power supply and look around also, maybe something obviously cooked.

    testing capsule in condenser mic

I have MXL V69 tube condenser. I like this mic, I use it in my home studio to record myself. I used it a couple of weeks ago, no problem. When I went to use it this past weekend, I could only get a veeery small signal out of the mic. The mic had been left on for a couple of days( I had to...

    preamp into Korg D16

I have a Korg D16. Currently, I use the built in preamps or a blue tube pre when I need phantom power. I want to upgrade to a nicer pre amp and am looking for something in the $500 to $1000 range, preferably 2 channels. my question is, since I will be running any new pre amp through the D16...
