If you're interested, I can upload some samples of my son & his buddy jamming w/ drums & guitar and/or drums & bass. They recorded a 2 1/2 hour jam session in my son's room, using the built in mic's of our DP004.
If you decide to purchase the DP, there are a few things you should know up front...
Wow, Morningstar has some good ears! If he hadn't have mentioned the bass, I wouldn't have even noticed it! It seemed to be very much in the back ground. I think I would like to hear it better with the overall sound.
The thing that struck me was what I've been reading about in several places -...
That was cool. I like the flow of the song -how it built, and then the "scenery" kept changing with the drums and guitar. It wasn't too repetitive because you kept it moving, and interesting. I liked the little "tink-tink" (probably not the right description for it) sound at the end.
Sorry, Chili. You're the boss.
I was intimidated by this headline for the mp3 clinic:
"Do you have something worth listening to? Convert it to MP3, post it to your Web site, and tell us where we can listen to it!"
I didn't expect my song to be really "worth listening to", but I'm willing to be...
NYmorningstar,
I'm so sorry to have provoked you (somehow, I got your previous post in my email). I'll spend more time in the mp3 clinic. Originally, I didn't want to put my stuff there, because I wasn't asking people to "like" my voice (or my song), because of my lack of training, etc., I was...
p.s. the recordings I'm doing of stuff I've written is for an eventual keepsake for my kids. The process I'm going through to improve my skills is so that I can record my friends' and my kids' work with more knowledge and "polish" than I have had in the past.
Thanks, I chose to post here instead, because I was looking for specific help on hearing more (other people's ears) of what's going on in my mix. I wasn't expecting feedback on the likability/marketability, etc. of the song.
I'm not a performer, and don't intend on marketing any of my stuff...
Hi folks,
Would you please give a few minutes to listen to my new recording? I've been learning so many new things about recording, mixing, compression, tweaking reverb, etc. and I'd really appreciate your honest feedback. Even if you don't ascribe to the lyrics (gospel song), could you critique...

Wow, this is an old thread, recently resurrected.
So, I thought some of you might enjoy the recent video segments on audiofanzine, featuring Michael Wagener:
https://en.audiofanzine.com/
The first two segments of the series are on recording drums...
I have just recently started to write, and some people think the songs are pretty good.
I enjoyed listening to your work. I would say you have many talents. The ability to teach yourself all of those instruments, the ability to create songs, music, etc.
So, to compare, I would say that I have...
Maybe you have a sweeter spot in your townhouse for recording vocals? Are you using a condenser mic? Condensers will most likely hear the air moving from a ceiling fan, whereas dynamic mic's aren't going to pick up so much of a room. You might be able to use the sound of a room to your...
Revisiting the original post, here:
I have a couple of thoughts for the original question:
Figure out what you most want to express...
Is there music in your head? Make some music, and give it some cohesiveness: Beginning, Middle, and End. Think about how it makes you feel when it's finished...

Thanks for the link. Lots of info there, too. The description of problems using silica made me think that's why dessicant was recommended/used, above. Is it true that it has qualities that make it a better candidate for storing with...
I would think mixers are primarily to manage live sound. Mixers usually have many inputs to manage mic's, instruments, etc., and a couple of different ways to output the sound, most likely to amplify the sound for an audience.
Recording is a whole different world, where you want each voice and...
A little story for you Hendrix fans:
Ernie Isley conducted a little guitar clinic at the Fender Museum (Corona, CA) a few years back, and told some interesting tales.
He was the young one, so he stayed home when the big boys went out. A little-known (at the time) young man came to live with...
Recently, hubby and I listened to IHR podcast #64, where there is an amazing section on compression. He plays a recording of big band w/ scat singer, and then the scat singer's voice disappears in the mix. He explains the settings he used, and it totally brought out the parts of the singing that...
