    xaviere guitars

I've reviewed the XV-820 back in the July Issue of FrugalGuitarist.com. Full review can be read here. How do they sound? You tell me... This clip features the Xaviere 820 into a Digitech GNX3000 on the Deluxe model with a slapback added and SIR was applied to get a room sound This clip...

Advice needed for recording drums with a bunch of Shure57s

I think you have a very good starting point. I'm a guitarist, so don't know anything about drum tuning so perhaps follow the above tuning steps. However the eq and compression suggestions are spot on and I think you'll be shocked by how good it will sound.

    APEX 210 Quick Review

Thanks for the tips! I wouldn't quite call it dull, perhaps smooth is a better word? Surely not transparent on the high end but I don't know if that's a bad thing just yet. I need to spend a bunch more time with it before I make any mods. I liked the tones I got out of it and am looking...

    APEX 210 Quick Review

Thought I'd take advantage of the current Live.com 30% cahback eBay promotion and pick up some gear on the cheap. First to arrive was an APEX 210 ribbon mic. The listing was $134.99 w/ free shipping and 2 whirlwind mic cables. After the cash back is received, the mic will have only set me...

Which would you prefer for your fretboard: Maple, Ebony, or Rosewood?

I thought I loved the warm rich tone of rosewood (all my guitars had rosewood boards) for years. Then I played some maple necked guitars and...darn it...they sounded pretty good too. So did ebony and every other fretboard wood I've tried. Just play the guitar, if it sounds good it is good...

    Xaviere blues

I haven't played an SX Tele. However the SX SST57 Stop Tail I reviewed for FrugalGuitarist.com is a keeper. I agree with the above post stating the gardware isn't top of the line (which you shouldn't expect at this price point). However, my guitar stays in tune admirably and intonates fine...

Thinking of getting my first electric guitar and amp

Great combination for a beginner/first rig which allows plenty of room to grow into.

Looking for a cheap all rounder

For $100, pick up an AT2020 (assuming you have a mic pre with phamtom power) and a GLS ES57 or ES58. You'll be able to cover pretty much anything decently with this pair of mics.

    Guitar multi-effect

I personally am a big fan of Digitech gear, sounds great and very affordable.

Grab Yourself A Deal On A Tube Amplifier!

I'll have a review with clips in the November issue (I know that's a month away) of FrugalGuitarist.com. Early impressions? The cleaner settings are decent but I wouldn't call them pristine by any stretch of the imagination. The higher gain settings are on the rough and strident side, even...

Can a reverb circuit be a loop?

Just got one of these as well. I was wondering about adding loop as well. As there is a line out jack, I'll bet it could be very easily modded to have an effects loop. Half the work is already done...

    cheap amps

Find a second hand Peavey Bandit. You should be able to get an older one for around that price. At that price range, that's about the best you're going do.

    Sonar 4 vs Sonar 7

I went from Pro Audio 9 to SONAR 5 and will soon be running SONAR 7. Based on the SONAR 5 TO SONAR 7 a couple great enhancements are the software suite (of course) and some great workflow enhancements. One of my favorites is organizing VST effects in subfolders rather than one long list...

    Solid or Hollow Body Tele?

I reviewed one of the solid bodies for FrugalGuitarist.com last month. Nice guitars in my opinion. The pickups are low output, so if you want something with a little more fire you'll have to swap them. Alan reivewed a hollow a few months prior and has several clips on YouTube. You can read...

The Tone Thread - Post your guitar clips here

Here is a link to a bunch of clips of different gear from my site, www.FrugalGuitarist.com. each clip has a description fo what you're listening too...everything from miced up tube amps to software based amp modeling running on a laptop, though none are really my tone. The only criteria is that...

Modeling vs. Real Tube for live vs. recording

I would say to use what sounds good to you and you're comfortable with. There is a certain magic that happens when you play the gear that works for you, no matter what the technology.
