tell me what you think! and be brutal/honest!

Aphex Twin with writer's block on Valium comes to mind. I don't like the piano tune. The song as a whole is a bit boring. But, I have to say I hear some fairly interesting experiments with sound here and there. Maybe, just maybe, if you keep working and writing music like this you'll actually be...

    Rage Against The Sardine

This... rocks. I don't agree with Greg at all. Oh how I'm liking the way your guitars sound. Earphones on, pressed play with my volume too loud but I didn't adjust it. No comments. Add the vocals and update me man, I'm curious.

you will want to share your thoughts on my new song!

Hey I like this. There's some Sigur Ros in your vocals. Seriously man I think this is good stuff, it could be longer and get a bit wackier/fuller. Add some bass maybe? I don't mind the reverb at all, I'm not even sure if I'm listening to the same song. I played it twice now and liked it better...

    My album of sorts

Watching the sunrise: This is a very cosy song. Kind of feels like summer has begun indeed. The rhythm of the drums fits the song really well, but they're really asking to be more pronounced. It might not be the best drumkit around but you're still not doing it justice. Go together: yeah, this...

Dream (pop-rock song) - Remix in progress

Not bad man. You've obviously put a lot of work into this. You have to take another look at the drums though buddy. They sound much too weak for the drive of the song. It's clear you want the song to gallup but it's not fully happening with those drums. I think this would also make the vocals...

    Red Mark

Hi all. Check out the music on my homepage and leave some comments if you feel like it. I'm not changing it anymore but it'll be very useful for the next project. Thanks! Vincent

Land of the Dead. I diddy I wrote to Tim Burtons "Edward Sissorhands"

The further into the song I got, the more enthusiastic I got. From 2:00 onwards things get exciting. The snare has got to go, though. Like someone else said, it's not so bad when things get louder but it really diminishes the quality of the song for the most part. Nice sounding vocals man.

    hard rock tune >> "Thief"

Nice, yes, definitely. Interesting buildup, good energy, smooth mix. Excellent vocals. One thing that imo really jars: the distortion of the guitar. Too thin and grainy to really shine. It's like you're too shy to be really angry. If you can get that guitar to really roar this one will stand...

    Unfinished Tune - Ideas, suggestions?

Hi. I think it's definitely worth to keep working on it. I like the wah and chorus, but I'm thinking there's a bit too much of it. My biggest criticism would be the lack of difference between the 'verses' and the 'choruses' (e.g. 3:02-3:14 as chorus and what comes after as verse). I think the...

    Whats a good vocal mic

My limited budget is very much in love with my Rode NT-1a. They're getting married.

Having an Objective View of Your Abilities

Hi. I listened to Owl City for a bit, and I can tell you that if you want to make music in the same style (this could mean a number of things so I'll just assume you want the same sort of sound), then you only need to record your voice. I didn't hear any 'real' instruments in there. So you'd...

HELP!: Mixing vocals to fit in track.......

Mixing vocals is hard. That said, I had the exact same problem with the exact same mic. I'll never regret investing in a better suited, slightly more expensive one.

Or adjusted the volume? Or EQed it? Surely the pedal beater is a marginal issue, no?

I completely agree. I really like Clint2000 btw. I wouldn't have panned the drums to the left, though...

    grants and one man bands

A private business invests its money in whatever it wants to, imo sadly enough. Which businesses get money back has nothing to do with which businesses support the arts, I think. So you're an anarchist? Then we should be able to agree to a large extent. I don't think we should get too...

    grants and one man bands

now we're getting somewhere ok, there's some really interesting comments, thanks. Let's discuss. So far I read "cultural activity isn't work", to put it crudely (philbagg). I think that's a very dangerous statement. From caveman paintings over Michelangelo to Rothko or the Beatles and even this...

Arts Grants are not necessarily government funded. And even so, the government supports the arts, no? Writers and visual artists, for example?

    grants and one man bands

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone out there knows anything about getting grants or similar for making music. I just finished my first album next to my daytime jobs and I thought it would be awesome to get grants for doing just that: making albums. I don't need to become famous, I'd just like to...
