Need help micing drumset w/ two condensers...

I like recorderman and glynn johns, both seem to get me sort of similar results... however, I always rely on being able to mix in some close mics, especially on the kik and to a lesser extent, the snare. I never get enough thump (at least not enough for my liking) from from the kik with only...

    audacity?

I have aways thought of Audacity as more useful as a simple wave editor. Reaper is multi-tracking software. It depends on what you are looking for. I use both, well I use Wavelab now instead of Audacity, but I use ot for the same types of things... As far as price, functionality, ease of use...

    Console Rapers

calling the consoles "perfectly working" is probably stretching the truth in some cases.

    Snare Mic alternate to SM57

Did you mic the top and bottom or just the top? I have been screwing around with mic'ing the bottom as welll as the top and the difference can be dramatic. I tried a SDC on snare the last time I recorded, it really helped the snare cut through so I ended up using less EQ in the mix. So if you...

    transfer to wave

I could definitely help you out man. what kind of tape? my deck is set up for 456 or equivalent. I presume they are 15 IPS tapes? I use Reaper, but the wave files could be easily imported into any DAW software since they would all be exactly equal in length. EQ section in the Mackie Onyx mixer...

    transfer to wave

hey I could do this!! as long as the tapes weren't recorded with noise reduction... I could even bake them if they are sticky shed. Maybe I could make a few bucks doing this on the side. What's a fair price? $20/hour? or should I charge per tape? Where could I advertise for a service like...

Double kicks with out sound holes

use drum replacement software, like drumagog. I'm not a huge fan of triggered drum sounds, but it comes in handy sometimes. for metal and double kik stuff, its almost essential if you want stuff to have that slick pro sound.

Double kicks with out sound holes

yeah, I dunno about the ONLY way either, but i do think cutting holes or removing/replacing the front heads will make your life 1000x easier and get you much better results. the only other thing I can think is to mic both the front and where the beater smacks the drum.

    ribbon and pres suggestions?

one man's "warm" is another man's "dull". What kind of stuff are you recording? Do a little more research and if you can, do some listening tests. for $800 you should be able to buy a damn good mic/pre combo. You can audition stuff from online retailers like musiciansfriend and send it...

    Ribbon woes...

is it still under warranty? I bought one of these and I was very disappointed in it so I sent it back. You can spend a few ducks and get it modded too. doesn't oktava mod offer sell a mod for these mics?

where can I get a stereo to mono adapter?? or help with multiple monitor mixes??

maybe, I need 1/4" though.... rokket- yeah I have the manual, and I have read the section on aux busses. I think I know how to do it with aux busses, but I would need more channels on my snake and possibly a more sophisticated headphone amp??

where can I get a stereo to mono adapter?? or help with multiple monitor mixes??

so I want to provide two seperate monitor mixes from one headphone monitor feed with my Onyx 1620 mixer. I figure I can *maybe* accomplish this with some creative panning. For example, say I am recording two guitar players and a drummer simultaneously, each guitar player wants his own guitar in...

How to make toms cut through mix?

depends on how you play them too, and how busy the mix is. if the toms are not close mic'ed, good luck trying to get them to pop out of a busy mix. how do you set up the overheads? glyn johns set up might help, it will definitely pick up more of the floor tom than a typical x/y pair over the...

new to tape - questions about 16 trackers

what's your budget blumedia? if you can spare the cash, go for the better format. pro tools HD, apogee converters- it sounds like you are used to some better gear, you might be disappointed in 16 tracks on 1/2".

    Best way isolate ech drum

why would you WANT your recording to sound like that? are you recording metal or something? do your drums sound bad? bad room? I suppose you could put the mics closer to the cymbals (may get phase-y though) or try pointing away from drums and more at the cymbals.
