I thought I kept seeing this topic pop up from site to site. I just thought it was bad karma.

    bass blister

I have blisters on me fingers! Playing bass is definitely playing with pain. I have been playing for 25 years and it has become a fact of life. Maybe I just like it. The callases will come in time and once you have them they will never truly go away. Just give it time and like the others have...

    Win98 or NT4?

Ruebarb Oh yes it got read at the bottom of the heap. I upgraded OCT 1 from sx 33 with Win 3.1 to a P III 450 with Win 98. I absolutly hate it. I have never had to restart as many times as I have had to in the last few months. ctrl/alt/del ought to be in huge letters and on huge buttons. They...

    Direct Box?

One thing that helps with actives is to drop some of the gain. They are potent and on my head I have a switch to cut it by -15 DB, it's good to try to trim your pre-amp, otherwise they tend to flip and give you nasty distortion.

    anyone familiar with string arrangements?

Hi Nate It's been a long time since I studied music theory but I'll give you the best I can. 1) Avoid using straight 3rds and 5ths in your voicing too bland 2) Don't get over busy with the parts as it tends to muddy up the works 3) Ascending and descending scales through different parts...

    Computer guts 2

Slackmaster Thanks I'll be sure to look the sites up. I've been looking at 300's and wondered how they'd go. Also what do you know about the cakewalk 8? I down loaded the demo and fiddled with it a bit. Just curious!

    Computer guts 2

What I'm going to do is record digitally on an FD-8 dump it and possibly re-mix if need be. Burn my own cd's then probably see from there. I know it's a little foggy but alot depends on how the projects turn out. I'm really new at the net and as I go along my goals will be more well defined. I...

    Computer guts 2

Good point. I bought it more for the overall features than for the dual procs. No it won't be a server just used to finish off recordings. That's why I posted to keep myself outa trouble. Thanks

    Computer guts 2

Well I did it and it didn't take long, tried to give advice and exhausted my knowledge in a hurry. Building a computer from the ground up and need some advice from the guru's lurking around the corner. To start with this is where I'm at: ATX mid tower with 3-5 1/4" externals, 2- 3 1/2"...

    temp files

Dobro I too wade through all the problems as you do. I was on the phone for tech help a week ago and one thing he had me do is go to the temp file folder. I ended having files from emailed jokes etc and alot of other crap I didin't need either. I should have looked here first like you and...

    computer guts

Yea you still have to use the ole floppy to set the cd-rom up in a new system as far as I can tell. From what I've read anyway that boots up first and sets it up in the hard drive for the rest of the programming. Hopefully I'm right at least I will know for sure when I get my first one built. If...

    computer guts

Slackmaster I understand all you say for the most part and you are right. The speed and accessability of the new IDE drives do rival the scsi at far less. And I have to believe that processor speed and amount of memory really will in the end bog down like you said. This has really helped me as...

    What should i buy?

Hi I know that Fostex for one has powered monitors and I also believe that Alesis has powered monitors as well. I don't know avout the Freq. response of them or even what they have as far as power and what they have loaded in them. I use an Alesis RA 100 with a pair of monitor one along with a...

The best feature about the SCSI is the amount of devices you're able to daisy chain along with the speed of it! I don't know for sure how many can run off one card, but the motherboard I've got for my homebuilt pc will support up to 30 devices. Alot of what I know is either from my brother or by...

    computer guts

Hi I'm building a computer and have asked my brother (a whiz kid at this stuff not me) about what kind of hard drive to install. I have scsi onboard and his reflection on this is, EIDE are cheaper but only 4 devices can be connected up in one system. I know SCSI devices cost an arm and two...

    Fostex XR-5... a little help?

I have an XR-5 and recently bought a FD-8 digital. The only thing I found wrong with the 4 track (besides number of tracks) is the hiss. I think with the right toys you can eliminate it.

A storage question for FD-4 owners

Yea an 50-25 pin adapter will work. As far as the storage the continually update it at the Fostex site. And hopefully syquest did't go out of business even though I have three new ones!!

A storage question for FD-4 owners

Hi I bought an FD-8 with a 250 zip then searched auctions and was able to find syquest 1.5 gig drives and carts as cheap as most retailers. Talk about storage more capabilities than I've figured out with plenty of room do bounce whatever you want. In response to an earlier question the zip...
