    Windows 2000!!! Great stuff!!!

Ed Thanks for the warning!!! I've heard about the support with NT but not with 2000 yet. I won't be as brave as you with the dual or triple boot system. I'll leave the home pc the way it is (I'm the one who has to figure it out) but I will install 2000 in a single boot system for mine. My one...

    Windows 2000!!! Great stuff!!!

Ed I have 98 on my home pc and don't really care for it, too many restarts(easy to navigate for the wife and kids that's all). What is the minimum ram for 2000 anyway? I'm still working on the pc I will be using for recording and my own use and want to get as much in before I fire it up...

What is a patch bay, do I need one?

I bought a patch bay because I have a serious problem with experimenting with effects. Noise wise I try to keep the patch cable length to a minimum. With it you can keep all your permanent connections of your rack stuff in place and do your cable moving from the front. Big drawback is the...

    Mixer vs pre-amp

    Making a bass speaker cabinet

Yes I have...first off why 2-15's? The rig I built has 4-10's and 1-15. I also have another 15 cab just for good luck. That way you can have the best of both worlds, tons of punch and tons of bottom end. Rattle your pant legs!!! You can either go to www.partsexpress.com or...

    Making a pickguard

Right off hand after thinking about it I would say as long as you have a good ground, run a jumper from the pick guard to the same location as the rest in the electronics cavity, you should be ok. Not sure how you'll have to fasten it but it should keep the possible noise to a minimum.

    Guitar sounds too raw.

One of my guitar players has a Boogie 50 watt with 1-12, be prepared they are screamers!! Aside from that the have got one of the best tones for a small, self contained amp that I've been around (unless you want to go with a Matchless!) :D :D

    JUST NEED THE PC!!!

After posing the same question myself I can help a little. While SCSI sounds good on paper as far as HDD it is a waste of money with size and speed of IDE constantly on the rise. It used to be more reliable and faster but from what I ahave learned lately is, it is not worth at least double your...

    CABLES

A good place to look for bulk cable, 100' spools, is www.partsexpress.com. They carry neutrik connector bodies for cable building as well as everything else. I try to buid as many cables as I can, anyone ever need a 4' cable when all you have is 3' and 6'? Make sure to have your iron hot...

    Just a minor bitching

Yes Col they do! I have noticed that an old Rick or Fender are still apart from most. I do have to admit that to get away from the new sound I had to put together my own. At least that way I can set the string height, bridge, and select the pickups to my taste. I have found that wood does...

    Just a minor bitching

Another major factor in the overall tone is the rig and how eq is used in it. I have noticed a heavy shift into thick mids (not the pbass mid growl either). One thing that makes me laugh is the 4-10 craze that seems to be happening too. When I first started playing 8-10 SVT's were the...

    EQUIPMENT

dobro is right...don't worry about a multi tracker unless you want it to be easily portable. A good mixer and you're on your way, that way you can spend the extra money on other necessary equipment

what is a direct out jack?

Is it a 1/4" jack or an XLR? On most newer models of amps I've noticed that the manufacturers have been installing a direct out from the preamp. Not sure with the Marshall without looking at the paperwork. I don't want to tell you to plug into your board direct without knowing more

A storage question for FD-4 owners

You paobably don't need to archive but the way I record alot of times is turn it on, record parts as I play and that way I've got records of all my insane doodles. I can always come back to them (memory isn't what it used to be) and record in ernest.

    Direct Box

It's up to personal preference as to what is the better way to go. I use a digitech processor direct into the board and mike also. Personally I like both ways. Natural speaker sound is probably my favorite though. Others around here can help you better with name brands of direct boxes (Dragon...
