    basement studio

Is anyone else going to record? Eye to eye contact is nice when talking to someone when they're in the studio. Concrete itself is going to give you so much sound reflection it would be unreal. Have all your neighbors, friends, relatives etc., save those egg cartons. Nice cheap absorption.

    sound card

Is that Busby or Bugs? Sorry got a friend named Bugs. As far as my knowledge will let me go Don't buy a generic. You will want a different sound card than what comes stock. Most of them are for the consumer and not for the result that you are looking for.

    analog to digital

I won't rip anyone a new asshole but I still for the life of me can't see the "warmth" everyone talks about. Maybe my ears or brain are burnt but I just can't hear it. Lazyboy has got the right idea as far as the Y cable, they're great for everything (make it work baby)!!!!!

Studio Monitors and a crappy amplifier

I ain't rich either! In my humble opinion opt for the speakers first. Home body type, cheapo cheapo speakers are the worst! You will never get the frequency response you want outa them! You could buy a hell of a good soundcard, hell of a good, clean power amp, and have shitty speakers and...

How to get the "Great wall of distortion"

What kind of guitar are you using? My recording problem is too thick. I use a strat with a bridge humbucker, an old beatup peavey w/celestions, and a digitech (don't know the model off hand) rackmount processor. Along with a metal pedal. Of course I don't use it all at once but it's still...

    Soundblaster live drives

Has anyone used the live drive or live drive 2? I see that the live drive 2 has digital optical I/O and fits into a 5 1/4" bay. Just curious as to the quality for the bucks issue. By the way I bought a live drive to install as a beginning to my system, afterall I figured to buy Vegas Pro as my...

    Starting out.

Well....where to give you a start. No, what you have can't give you a "pro cd" Can it give you a demo...yes Are your tunes good, mediocre, great? Are your chops in order? Get a kickass band together, practice, practice, practice. Give up on dates, Friday nights are for practice, and work on...

    Greasy Thug

Keep your strings changed and the crud off your fingers. I never, ever used such things and never will. If you want slick strings go for a half round or something similar. Or maybe lighten up your grip be it guitar or bass. I find myself grinding strings in the fretboard constantly and make a...

    Dual Processing

Faith I will, I'll have to look up the details of the mobo (I'm green at this). Slackmaster I have noticed through reading that vegas pro takes advantage of dual procs. I haven't decided on the recording software yet and should decide soon. I did go with a Teac cd-r scsi like you suggested...

    Whats your guitar/amp setup?

REAL ARTISTS continue to experiment, be it guitar players, keyboard players, or any other musician. If they didn't we'd all still be in the dark ages, as some of us seem to be. Not all musicians move with the times and try new techniques and styles and fade away or become extinct...I am yet to...

    XLR outs

I use the XLR out on my bass head and like the tone better than goin direct into the board. I have a line out level and a pre/post effects switch that allows me more flexibility. I really like having the choice of using the EQ on my head it gives me kind of a live tone instead of being a...

    Recording Bass Guitar

I tend to have the same problem but I have always had problems with my attack to the strings, I play heavy handed even been known to break strings while playing live. It may very well be a connection problem the way you say it pops now and then. Do you know if you have a good quality output jack...

    $50,000-$100,000 Help!!

Good sound proofed room to start with a vocal booth. -I agree with the Mackie board 24 channel -A good tube mike pre-amp(ART sounds like the choice around here) -If it were me a high end pc set up for dedicated recording, build it yourself or custom as long as it isn't a consumer pc. That way...

    Dual Processing

Well duck as I understand it and will soon find out first hand...It ins't the fact of using two procs but the ability of the hardware & drivers, and software to work with NT and 2000. Supposedly the two are geared more to the professional not the average user thus, I assume, the conflicts...

    FD8 digital vs analog?!

I also went from 4 track tape to the FD-8 and like it as well. Much better quality than tape...I have had the same problem with the monitor buzz but it disapears with the stereo out. Definitely a good buy for the cheap price of it. I haven't used it yet to mix down to a pc but when I finally do...
