    That 80's vocal backup sound

It's all in the mane man, in the mane!!! Go to a mirror just before your tracking session and assess your hair length/volume. The more volume the more VOLUME!!! ;-)

    Recording bass....stuff...

remember also that your Bass Pod has two outs. One is for a "DI" signal that is mostly clean and without effects or modeling. The other is with modeling. In fact, look at the top/back of our BOD and you will see outs labeled: "DI out" and "modeling out" play with that and you'll get some...

    Audio Interfaces.

I'd think you'd do best with either PCI or Firewire. The new EMU line is pretty good - I have the 1820M and there are many inputpossibilities with it.

    Kravitz Overated.....Overated.....Overated

I'm right there with you honedawg... I think he is a "whole package" guy, so skill on any one thing isn't his point. I rather admire the Renaissance approach.

Help on warming/fattening up sound in Cubase

Some people like this: http://www.pspaudioware.com/plugins/vintage.html Also, the TrueTape or Magneto VST effect that comes with SX addresses some of this.

    V irritating problems..

I would also suggest Cubase SE or the one that comes bundled. Cracks are just bad news all around.

    Your Favorite Bass Player Thread!

Geddy Lee (Top of my list) Tony Levin (modern bassmaster) Patrick Dahlheimer (holds his band together more than most realize) Adam Clayton (made the steady 8th note sound great) Peter Hook (really underrated in terms of using the Bass as a lead and melody instrument) Simon Gallup (lots of tasty...

V-amp pro - has anybody tried it

I didn't "play out" with it, but I did own it for about 4 months. Nice enough, but in the end, I went back to Line6 stuff (and do not regret the move). J

    S.U.B. or Real McCoy?

Hey all, I appreciate your feedback. I obviously lean towards the majority of assessments here. It is funny how marketing and impatience has created and perpetuates an entire market segment. Honestly, open up a music-store flyer the next time it is sent to your home (if you order gear...

    S.U.B. or Real McCoy?

I've noticed that as one ages the tolerance for middle-of-the-road instruments and compromises seems to decrease. I still buy "bargain" instruments from time to time, but my band days seem so far behind me now that I sometimes find it hard to justify obtaining "quality" instruments when my...

    John Mayer

I agree with most people who are speaking negatively of him, because those were (concerning his originals) my feelings too. I only made a thread to say, "wow lying under that singer/songwriter mask is a dude who rocks." If you saw the performance you'd know that he is the real deal. He...

    GI100 Ultra-G® DI Box

Considering my skill level after 20 years of "dabbling" in guitar and bass, I could use any piece of gear that "destinks" my sound. ;-)

    John Mayer

There were cats like John Mayer in Honolulu when I grew up there in the 70s and 80s. These guys (Henry Kapono and Willie K. come to mind) were good at "island style" music and really good at slack-key (which is pretty awesome in a bluegrass kinda way) but they secretly had ROCK CHOPS! I...

    John Mayer

So, when this guy first came out I just figured he was another singer-songwriter "hatboy" dude and I hit the mental "dismiss" button. However, there was a benefit concert on TV the other night with celebrities answering the phone and John came on and did a hendrix tune - damned if I can...
