    Using a Limiter

jaycay, are you sure you want to limit, or are you talking about compression??? A limiter is pretty harsh for most applications and is usually used for live sound to protect power amps. Try a compresser plug-in and search the board for compresser tips.

    Recording School

thirst, looks like you're in another 'school' thread too. the thing is there is no "school sucks/school is manditory" answer you can give everyone. Everyone learns different and picks up stuff in different ways. Columbia never promised me anything except an internship. I knew it would be hard...

    Recording School

I think that's some good advice. It seems the theme here is that it takes a lot of work whether you choose to go to school or not. And like sk8ingsnowman said, the success ratio is messed up because people go to school who have no idea what they are getting into. I hope my post before wasen't...

    levels question

I don't think you should have to crank the gain that high on the mixer. If you are playing the amp loud or at least a little loud, here's what I'd do. (your mic might be too far away, try it about a couple of inches away) Make sure all the faders you are using are at 0, thats the track's faders...

    ? for metal guitar players

Hey cellardweller, An Ampeg VT120, thats the tube job with the 4 10'es right? what a sweet amp, great sound but i could never get mine to stay operational. My amp had no preamp distortion, just an overall volume knob that would get super loud! I never had the thing above 3! I got my best...

    I know lots of chords... E5, A5, G5, F5, B5.. the list is endless!

Ok folks here's my disclaimer: I AM NOT DEFENDING POPULAR MUSIC, IT SUCKS! However: There is nothing wrong with simple music. I like minimalism. However I think prog rock is cool too. I have noticed a lot, at least with stuff on the radio that there is a lot of 4 chord riffs out there, and...

Help! Lots of noise when recording on PC

Thanks NYMorningStar I had similar thoughts but I can't get my software to recognize the line in jack. Nothing shows up on the VU's in PT Free or Cakewalk or Cool Edit Pro. Any ideas on how to get it so I can record off of the Line In??? I can hear the Line In over my speakers, but can't...

Help! Lots of noise when recording on PC

I was afraid of that! I am planning on upgrading to a new card that can handle multiple inputs. I was just hoping I could goof around with the current one and get decent quality out of it. Thats for the help DonF.

Help! Lots of noise when recording on PC

I just got a new PC and I have tried recording on Cool Edit Pro, CakeWalk Guitar, Pro Tools FREE and everytime I plug anything into the mic input, the VU meters light up to about -24 with noise! I am using the soundcard that came with my PC, and I have tried using a dynamic mic, a dynamic with...
