it really depends on the quality of outboard you have, if its just low end reverbs and multifx boxes i wouldnt bother with them, bt then if you have lex 244's and 1176's and distressors its a whole other story!
Patch them in and use them for a couple of mixes, if you feel they improve your sound...
Its a calibration problem between your mixer and soundcard. get a professional cd player with test tones and make sure that what your mixer is showing is the same as your interface. I assume your taking direct outs on each channel, and therefore its a level problem between your equipment (mixer...
go into the settings panel and make sure its specified to use the 8pre. Also is it configured to be the default soundcard for everything in control panel?
And by the way how are you finding it for recording (could be picking one up soon)? what made you change from the firepod?
logic 8? if your a student, or know a student, or pretend your a student you can get it for £100 ($200ish converted but its probably even cheaper for you americans) thats what im doing pretty soon
ive had a pair which ive used as overheads for a while. I find they do the job, but after using them for two drum recordings i have noticed they have no low end, and the highs are not very natural.
To summarise, they will do but i would reccomending going to the next stage up
pipeline, i think you missed the problem although the clean di trick is pretty handy.
To be honest you would be better off going thought a di box into your soundcard then running a software amp, you would get something much more useful than what you have now.
Cheers for the replys, its really helpful getting some feedback :)
Erockrazer i know what you are saying, i was trying to get away with less drum sound, because i think they are my weak link. I would be interested with your opinions on the other tracks if you have the time :D (possibly that was...
I completely see what you mean about energy, its nice to listen to something with a bit of flow. Im getting a bloc party ish feel on IF.
I reckon the space sounds workable, if you were able to beg borrow or steal something to record multiple tracks you could set the levels conservatively (so no...

This is a 4 piece band that ive just finished recording with, there are two writers (with 2 songs each)
Two different drum kits were used, both recorded like this:
Overheads - Behringer C2 -> Audiobuddy
Kick - SM57 ->Behringer mixer (had to go...
well then you could look at a pre with a spdif input, something like a maudio tampa. To be honest the soundcard doesnt look like its really mean for recording (although asio drivers will help) and by using a digital in your avoiding its convertors without paying much more
*just looked at us...
it really depends what your going for, certain styles and certain songs sound good with the same take, possibly more mechanical.
And as Ironklad Audio said, for demos cut and paste like its going out of fashion;)
i know the situation your in, i used to use a guitar amp as my microphone pre :(
I would recomend getting a fairly decent large diaprahm condenser microphone (Ive personally found the Studio Projects B1 to be good) that will give you a much better sound than a sm58 on vocals and acoustic guitar...
The little clip seems to remind me of Hundred Reasons :)
I like the tone that youve got, possibly in a mix i would put a track of each amp on each side because they sound so different.

This is one track from a band ive just had in recording, im using poor equipment but im quite pleased with how its sounding.
Vocals and acoustics were recorded in my garden with a Studioprojects B1 into an Audiobuddy
Drums were two Behringer...
The bass really needs to be SLAMMED with a compressor, and possibly a boost in the lows. The vocals are definately of the current trend ;) i think they come in a tad loud.
The whole mix seems to be turned down, nothing goes over -5db. Maybe you just havent optimised the levels yet.
Overall i...
