    New, Old Stock Headphones Question

Another point is I bought the 16 year pair off ebay. I have no idea when they were actually manufactured. My 25 year old pair came without a bag, but my 16 year paid came with a bag, so there's probably at leas ta few years difference .

    New, Old Stock Headphones Question

When I bought the originals 25 years ago, I remember them sounding fantastic. I didn't have to "get used to them" When I bought the spare pair 16 years ago, I do remember them sounding "a bit different", but I dismissed it as them not being broken in yet and put them in my mic locker. The cans...

    New, Old Stock Headphones Question

So I've been using the same pair of headphones for the past 25 years. I won't say the make/model as that's not the point. They get used daily. I loved them so much I bought a new spare pair around 16 years ago and put them away for a rainy day. Maybe that was a bad idea. Well it's finally...

Online mixing session with band mates?

To answer your question about ZOOM, yes, you can route your PC audio through ZOOM so your bandmates can hear you mix live. Having said that, I don't know how good the audio quality will be once it's processed through the internet. I'm sure the signal will be compressed somehow. No it won't be...

    Record keeping

Like many others, I had a blank form with..... Song Title Time Stamp Track 1 - Kick Track 2 - Snare Track 3 - Tom 1 etc........ Fold it up and stick in the box - along with re-call notes if applicable Or if you are still recording analog, use a simple spreadsheet

How often do you guys oil your fretboards, generally?

Generally every 2 to 3 years. I use Dunlop 65. It's around $5 a bottle and should last the rest of your life. I have 14 guitars (9 with rosewood fretboards) and have barely used a tenth of the bottle.

Isolation Box for Bass Amp. Is it Possible ??????

As I mentioned earlier, I built an iso box using my closet for my guitar amp and it works wonders. Lots of ridgid insulation, foam, carpets, pillows and blankets. I can crank that thing very loud and only hear the pick on the strings from 8 feet away. My wife can't even hear it downstairs. When...

Isolation Box for Bass Amp. Is it Possible ??????

Thanks for the feedback, I already get great tracks via DI/amp sim. I just thought it would be nice to mic a cab for a change. Maybe I need to re-think this and just stick to what already sounds fairly good.

Ear Protection & Drums. How Loud Is Too Loud?

No need for an SPL meter. It you play in a live band, you need hearing protection. I played in a live band for 25 years and I ALWAYS played with industrial ear protectors (30 db reduction). It's a no brainer. I was the drummer. I would even wear my industrial ear muffs at live shows. My band...

Isolation Box for Bass Amp. Is it Possible ??????

Thanks for the input. The reason I'm on the "mic a bass cab" bandwagon is because like so many others, I too have been recording DI/amp sim for years and years for bass. Recently I re-mixed an old album I had recorded from 20 years ago and I was blown away by the sound/tone of the bass guitar...

Isolation Box for Bass Amp. Is it Possible ??????

So I recently built a guitar isolation box within my closet of my studio (spare bedroom). It works amazingly well. When I play/record all I can hear is the pick hitting the strings. My wife says she can't even hear it in other parts of the house. I would love to make something similar for a...

    Static In My Signal Chain

I recently connected a new piece of outboard gear, but I'm getting slight static in my signal chain. I took a photo of the set up. Any ideas as to why I might be getting static and the occasional signal drop ? I can't for the life of me figure out why this would be happening. Very Frustrating!!

Where have all the acoustic drums gone ?

For me it's space. I live in Vancouver where you can't buy a house for less than $1.3M. If I had a house, I would always record acoustic drums. I desperately miss playing and recording acoustic drums sooooooooo bad!!! Until I win the lottery, it's V-Drums for me.

FOSTEX R8 chewing up Tapes ???

Yes, I agree. The ones with the logo on the bottom have been working fine so far. Now that I have the older ones transferred to DAW, I don't ever plan on playing them again. I'll cut them into 12" pieces and make christmas tinsel out of them.
