Acoustic Mix: Chris Tofield - "Give Life One More Chance"

The space/ambiance sounds good in the guitar and vocal once he starts singing. There may be a little too much reverb for my taste (I like to feel it more than hear it), but it's not bad at all. This is also a matter of taste, but the vocal sounds too loud compared to the guitar to me. It sounds...

Can you recommend a mix engineer?

Oh good, I was hoping you'd reply as I was planning on going with you for mastering my current self-mixed project before I start a new one.

Can you recommend a mix engineer?

Can anyone recommend a mix engineer they've had experience with that generally works on modern pop, rock, folk and orchestral music? Perhaps a mastering engineer can chime in?

    Did I over mix this?

I've been working on this one for awhile and I can't tell if I did too much. I kept juicing it and juicing it and now I can't tell if it's just a jumbled muddy mess or the lyrics are even intelligible. I definitely need some more ears on it. Thanks in advance for any critiques...

    I Said Yes

Well this was a harsh awakening so I decided to remix the entire song taking everything you said into account. The woodblock was a live snare I recorded just hitting the rim so I left that, but I replaced the kick, snare and cymbals. I'm still not happy with the clarity on the bass, but I'd love...

    I Said Yes

It took me a little over a year to complete the recording of this song as I heard it in my head. Just as a warning there are some adult-oriented lyrics in this song, but it is very tongue in cheek. I am looking for any feedback on the balance of the instruments - there are quite a few and it was...

    Home Again

Just looking for any feedback on this mix... my ears are fatigued so I figured this was a good stopping point.

    Mixing advice please

A lot of this is actually the performance. I'm sure in the example you posted he used a good mic with a good mic preamp. Aside from EQ, compression and maybe reverb it doesn't sound like much else other than the performance. You should try posting an example of your work in the MP3 Mixing Clinic...

    Walkin' Around

Thanks. That's all just the drummer - I think I only lined up one kick and snare hit on the intro and that was manual. Honestly the complex drumming throws me off sometimes live as I come from more of a pop and rock background, but this is just for fun more than anything else. But yeah I didn't...

    Walkin' Around

Is this better? I took all of your suggestions and combined them. There is a lot more low end as far as bass and kick go, but of course the more low end you add the more of a balancing act it is. Hopefully this sounds better. I wouldn't call this 50s or rockabilly. Maybe if there was more...

Just gonna bump this thread one last time to see if anybody has any advice before I call it done. Thanks in advance!

New Song - West Texas Girl

Bad ass song. I'd like to hear a little more low end on the bass and kick. It sounds like the vocals were hi passed a little too far and you could add a touch more reverb to them as well. I think if you added a little delay to the solo it would sound cool too and mesh a little better.

    Fantasy and Reality

I don't know why, but on this song I'd experiment with the formant on the vocal to make it sound deeper. You could try cutting around 1.5kHz to make it sound smoother too, but sweep for it because every voice is different. A de-esser might help on the vocal too for some of the harsher tones. I'd...

    Sand in your crack

The whole mix sounds a little too compressed and limited. Better drum samples would help. Sounds like an 80s hair metal tune to me. I wouldn't mind hearing vocals louder with a little less drums. Maybe a little less low end on the bass too? Sick guitar solo!

Nick Drake Cover- Black Eyed Dog

I echo Chili's sentiments. I'm a big fan of Nick Drake. You could also add a small amount of reverb to the whole mix (or at least the vocal) to get the feel he got in the room. The vocal should be a little louder too, but definitely push more air out when you're singing if you're going to try to...

I give my life to You

I think the vocals could be quieter with a touch more compression and reverb or subtle delay to fit in with the rest of the atmosphere of the song (especially at the beginning and end). I also think the bass has a bit too much low end, maybe hi pass around 80Hz? You could even duplicate or send...

Help needed for this track | SQUARES F4F

At around 1:04 I definitely want to hear more bass... like super deep bass, then I want that to continue from there depending on whoever raps on top of it. They can get weird with it and have the bass drop out again depending on the verse and the flow, but I still think it should get even more...

    New Song - Windmill

Finishing a song is such a huge accomplishment. This song gives me a Weezer vibe. I love Weezer. First off I'd duplicate the drum track or send it to a bus and compress the hell out of that duplicated track... like as hard as you can, but then turn that duplicated track down like 20 to 30dB so...

can someone have a quick listen to this plz

If you're super worried about making sure the vocal stays on top you could sidechain a compressor so the guitar gets 3 to 6 dB quieter when the vocal comes through. The volume sounds fine to my ears though. I would, however, hi pass the vocal to get out some of the mud. Maybe even as far as 150...
