    Most technical instrumental album

I've said that before myself and even though I like Dream Theater I was never really that into his playing style. It's like I know every note that is going to come next or something and that ruins it for me. It changed a little when I saw him live a couple years ago on the G3 tour. He played his...

    Most technical instrumental album

On a side note, all you fans of Gordian Knot owe it to yourselves to check out "Torn Between Dimensions" by At War With Self. It could pass as the 3rd Gordian Knot album. Snelwar, Manring, and Zonder. It's great.

    Most technical instrumental album

Spiral Architect and Cynic are defnintely good ones. Spastic Ink Blotted Science Canvas Solaris Behold...the Arctopus Planet X can be pretty technical. This is my favorite genre, but I'm having a mental block right now.

Cynic cover - "Veil of Maya"

Thanks alot guys. Rayc, I did this at my little home studio, nothing special by any stretch of the imagination. Here is the original if anyone is curious: YouTube - Cynic-Veil of Maya

Cynic cover - "Veil of Maya"

I did this track for a tribute album, so I want to be considerably more picky than usual. I'm thankful for any and all suggestions. This track might seem a little weird if you're not familiar with the band, but I worship them so I want to do it justice...

Death metal drum bounce from Superior 2.0.. looking for comments

Yeah, I just tried to download it and it told me it "no download server at the moment" or something.

    arms/hands/wrists hurt in any position?

I can see your wrists getting screwy, maybe some elbow pain, but if you've got pain in your shoulders, biceps, forearms and wrists all at the same time you should go see a doctor. That sounds pretty extreme and certainly not typical. From what you describe of your playing position, I'd say you...

    is smashing a guitar cliche?

It's not cool unless it's your main axe and worth alot of money. Otherwise it's just lame deluxe.

    Charvel/Jackson ?

The stock pickups are certainly not Seymour Duncans.

The Tone Thread - Post your guitar clips here

Nice thread, and lots of nice tones. I haven't mic'd my amps in a while because I'm always in too much of a hurry and I don't feel like screwing with it. Here's something I did in a typical hurried fashion just the other day with my PODxt. http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?id=14127...

Fastest guitarist in the world - official

No, it's the exact opposite. Speed is totally objective, and not a matter of opinion. Whether or not it's cool is obviously a matter of opinion, but that's not the point. The pretentious see higher value in whatever sort of playing appeals to them, and thus dismiss any other sort and belittle...

Fastest guitarist in the world - official

I love threads like this because they pull all of the pretentious jerk-offs out of the woodwork. What reasoning can one give for saying all of this guy's efforts are "wasted time"? Because it doesn't appeal to you? Because your own tastes are too refined to be impressed by such a juvenile...

Oh no, everything is made from scratch.

Homebuilt guitar take two, critiques welcome!

I probably have 150+ hours in it. But being a first timer, it took me a while. You should just order some books on the subject and really familiarize yourself with the task before you decide to jump into it. That's what I did. My materials were all from online sources like Stewart MacDonald...

    Drop-tuning etc

Why does it annoy you for an auditioning guitarist to ask what tuning you play in? Don't you think that's a necessary piece of information? Alot of metal music is very percussive in nature and the weight of the palm mutes does mean everything. So yes, it's worth it to tune down just for those...

Homebuilt guitar take two, critiques welcome!

Got my nut files, just did some starter slots so that I could string it up. It's not set up yet, but well enough to play it a little. I was impressed by the sound, it really sings. I expect this to have some great tone once it's wired! Here's another pathetically amateur picture. :D

Homebuilt guitar take two, critiques welcome!

Levelled and crowned the frets this weekend. I bought a decent straight edge, and the "fret rocker" from Stew Mac along with a fret levelling file, crowning file, and a few other items. Had to do a very slight truss rod tweak to strighten the neck...seemed to be as straight as possible. After...

Homebuilt guitar take two, critiques welcome!

I have been practicing a bit, but it's been on scrap stuff more or less. It's all been spray can stuff so far too. (The spray can Nitro from StewMac). A decent spraying setup may be in my future. However, I didn't necessarily think I was shorting myself with the finish I did. I like a naural...

    Zero fret question...

I've never heard that, and it's interesting because I'm about to start making a new nut. Don't your open strings buzz alot easier? I was thinking I needed to try about .020 to .030" above the fret height.
