    New Acoutic Song

Good song, the acoustic sounds ok to me. You have a good voice! -James'

    Drum sound over distorted guitars

I think it definately has enough click. The test is, when you play it through crappy little speakers with no low end at all, can you still hear it? I just did that, after listening to it through full-range speakers and a sub... it has enough punch and click I would say. good playing, it...

    Good times, bad times

As an owner of a Fostex MR-8 I would say good job... ha ha. Especially on the drum mix, because recording drums on those is a nightmare. I have used it before, and now it just sits in a room. I'm surprised that you got the tone you did with it. Mostly because you can't eq anything after it's...

    New Guy- New Song

I liked it for the most part. I thought the mix was decent, especially considering that they were fake drums... I hate fake drums, I really do. But you did a good job mixing them in and they were programed well so they didn't sound bad really. Good job! The cheapo bass got the job done well...

Did I do a good job? Listen and tell me.

Well, I have to go for a while. I'm working on another mix of it, I'll post it when I finish it. But in the meantime, any comments, and suggestions are welcome. Honestly, I really don't know much about low pass, high pass filters... I have a very small understanding of what they do. I used...

Did I do a good job? Listen and tell me.

When you mention panning the guitars, do you mean the acoustic and electric right and left? I did that during the electric guitar solo, the rythem electric and acoustic go left and right for that. But should I do that for the rest? I actually only have four mics on the kit as well, kick, two...

    Running Away - Original Mix

Use a real bass. Ha ha, sorry.. I had to.;) Other than a light chorus, and eq stuff I don't know... I've always used real basses. -James'

    Running Away - Original Mix

I would just recomend more bottom. It's a great song, but things sound so airy... more fullness would be good. I love the strings, and the acoustic guitar sounds great. You have a great voice, I wouldn't really bring it down at all, but I would add more bottom and see what you get(not on the...

Did I do a good job? Listen and tell me.

Equipment used. Just to fill you in on what I have at my disposal(not very much) I used SM57's on the toms and snare, the only drums micked aside from the kick. I can only record 4 simultaneous, I'm considering buying a firepod so I can do 8, and have a better deal with the drums hopefully...

http://www.jamesharmer.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/juliamarie-band-passing-through2.wma Hey, I know this is the third time I posted this song(I think) but I have taken alot of your advice and would like some input. I think the kick may be too loud, but it seems to get lost if I bring it...

    SM57, no response

Wait a minute, aren't you thinking of an SM58? I've heard that people have used those to hammer stages together before concerts, but never a 57. -James'

Another link to the song! For some people the MySpace player doesn't work well... I have it up at www.jamesharmer.com too. Here's the link for download, http://www.jamesharmer.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/breathe-life.mp3 -James'

    I suck at mixing...you don't...let's be friends!

Hmm... to be honest, it's hard to give advice without seeing the mix visually. But, I can say a few things. Performance is good! Mix though, overall everything sounds kinda muddy. The snare sounds to "snappy" like it doesn't have any lows or mids in it, the Hi-Hat and Ride sound too panned...

Remixed the song, need mixing advice.

Thanks, I'm actually in the band. It's the JuliaMarie Band, she writes the songs for the most part. But recently we have been trying to write things as a band, but we aren't completely sure where it's going. We're doing a "College Tour" right now, so far ranging from Ottowa to Long Island...

Thanks, does anyone have any advice about the background vocal in the bridge? I just can't get something that I really like. What do you think of how it sounds now? -James'

Remixed the song, need mixing advice.

Hey, I remixed the "Passing through" song that I had put up the other day and I think it sounds better. It's not mastered yet, but I would like more input from you guys... I took your previous advice. I still don't know what to do with the background vocals in the bridge, and the electric...

New song "Passing Through" need mixing help.

Thanks, by the way we're doing a "tour" in upstate New York and Southeastern Canada right now and looking for places to play if anyone's interested. I was wondering though if anyone had any ideas for the bridge, particularly the background vocals. I'm still lost there. I'll be putting up a...
