Having a hard time with female vocal...

Just a note, the style is supposed to be a sort of aggresive rock/R&B combo. A little different, I posted a really old recording of this on here once but this is a very new recording.

First Acoustic drums recording (with bass)

Sounds sweet man, I agree about the overheads being maybe a bit sizzly... but at the same time, maybe if electric guitars and vocals are added you will need them like that? Alone it sounds like too much though, and btw I really like the random singing :D You have the snare sounding really...

Having a hard time with female vocal...

http://www.jamesharmer.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/quickmixfix.mp3 If you guys can check this out for me, any mixing advice would be appreciated but especially the vocal. It just doesn't seem to blend with the mix. Also, I know that she's off time with the music at the...

Oh, I'm sorry... some browsers display the font differently. I guess you could highlight it? Very soon I'm going to be redesigning the whole page. -James'

    New demo cd

One thing I should have mentioned was that the only drum I do really use the individual mic for is the kick drum. The room mic doesn't pick up the the kick drum very well... I should have pointed that out. Now, each kick drum is different... but for mine I usually add it to the mix and add a...

    New song, short instrumental

hmm.... well, they are actually panned 100% left and right. Aside from where the lead comes in after the break... right after the little sweeping arpeggio on the guitar I switch the rhythm to center and put lead left and right. I guess I have to bring the volume down of the rhythm guitar...

    Cliche Pop Rock

I like the sound of the song, I really like it in fact. But the electric guitars do sound quite muddy, and because of that I don't hear any bass guitar... the frequencies that the bass needs to be heard are being taken by the electric guitars... if that makes sense? It kind of sounds like they...

    Been a while....

I think the kick sounds fine, but the vocals are a little weak sounding maybe? Not singing wise, but volume wise. I like the overall feel and sound, very different and musical. Now this is probably just a matter of personal preference but on the drums I have one thing. The toms, when you do...

    New song, short instrumental

Here it is in 320 mp3, http://www.jamesharmer.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/dynamicpanningmix.mp3 I've always panned the music I record with Rythem hard left and right and lead center, because it sounds good stereo and mono. And I also could see doing lead left and right, leaving rythem...

    New song, short instrumental

Hey guys, I wrote this Wednsday and recorded the guitar and bass... then the drums the next day. I just had this riff in my head and wanted to get it recorded, and then it sort of evolved into a mini song. I may add lyrics, I may not... I'm not sure. http://www.myspace.com/jamesharmermusic...

    New demo cd

I think the overall mix is pretty good, I just can't hear the bass guitar(even with a big subwoofer) and the drums are kind of weak. It really sounds kind of like a live band, strangely enough... a live band where the drums aren't miked and the bass isn't in the system. You're verry talented...

New song, how are the levels and EQ?

Well, currently the tour is just the east coast of the US. Ohio is the farthest west we're going so far. But we'd be up to going out there, especially if anyone can get us a gig! And yeah... Youtube certainly compressed it more than enough. I used to compress things so much and hate it now...

New song, how are the levels and EQ?

Thanks man. I guess I may have been a little compression shy on the mastering process. But if we remix it then we will definitely re-master it. It seems everyone agrees on the snare, so that will most likely be reduced quite a bit. Our drummer thought it was too hot as well when we were...

New song, how are the levels and EQ?

Yeah, we actually have changed the snare many times... it seems every time we like it we go back and listen again and don't like it. We mixed this as a band, so no one person was really in control of it. But I will recommend this to the other members for the final CD version. A three part...

    Boing!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow man, this is great! I love the tone of the lead guitar, and the drumming is tight. I agree about the hi-hat thing... but also I know what it's like to work with only four mics on a kit... I can still only record four simultaneous and I prefer a good setup, but you did a great job with it...

New song, how are the levels and EQ?

Oh, wow. I didn't realize that, maybe that's why it hasn't been getting comments despite all the views! Oh well, everyone... I FIXED THE LINK!! Thankyou for telling me, I wouldn't have noticed that. -James'

    Check it out!

I know some call it blasphemey, but I actually did not mic the electric guitars. I used a Cab/Mic emulator. It simulates a cab of choice, and has a "virtual Mic" that I can move around and place where I wish. I allways have it where I would if it were a real mic... up close, and dead center...

Hand of Shiva - new tune I just wrote

I like that you did it in Mixcraft 4. I have been using that for a while and really like it, I think people generally under-estimate it. But anyway, the mix sounds great... but I hate fake drums. Other than that I love it, and beatcraft drums aren't all that bad. The middle-eastern...
