    Stereo Vocals???

I have done X-Y micing for vocals. You can do it that way. You can also do some cool things with ambient mics and burying them back in the mix. Usually, you can get that creepy and strong vox stereo effect by doubling and panning hard.

Home Studio Vocal Mic for under $200?

Yah. Here comes the roars and screams. I can feel them coming, especially with what I am about to suggest. Marshall MXL2001 is decent and is in that price range. In fact,, right now at AMS they have a special where you get the MX2001 and MXL603 for $200 bucks. Anyway, just another one of the...

Does more tracks = Lush recordings? Whats the trick?

Re: what i meant is... Actually, they should go hand in hand. The BIG sound you are looking for is achieved by 'filling' the whole spectrum. By spectrum I mean this: Take your mixdowns a play them back where you can look at a moving graphic eq. Now, watch your mix. Does it dance around the...

Longtime Lurker humbly submits a try...

Re: Good and fair comments. As a reference I think that what you have is fine. You probably need to do a tune-up on that bridge. It might be a little hard to follow as a reference.

Re: Good and fair comments. Hmm. Listening to it again right now. Then guitars are there. They are jumping out there and overpowering your keys a bit. I think some eq'ing (if possible) is in order there. You might be able to bring the keys out a little more if they occupy a different space...

    Learning to sing well

And I will concur with Mike. Mike, dont think that I was downplaying the need and purpose of vocal lessons. It just didnt look like he was too enthused with taking part in them. I did take about 5 or 6 lessons, which turned out to be all I needed. It is more about strengthening your vocals...

    Dithering

Thats the problem though. These are not 24-bit. This mix that I am burning is 16-bit at 44.1. I have verified it several times.

Multi-platinum Recording Artist's Home Recorded Christmas Song!

Ok. Keys are TOO DAMN LOUD. :) Like Kristian, I think the snare is a little thin. Oh, and where's the kick?! Groovy song. I have always liked this dude.

    Learning to sing well

You want advice. You got it. You know all those cd's, tapes, or albums you got. Put em on. Crack em. The belt out the vocals right along with the artists. Put your gut into it. In fact, YOU get into it. You might look like a moron but it works in the long run. Then, when you start getting...

    Our Xmas song

Not too shabby. Man, she has a great voice. My take... I decided to make it difficult on you and listened at lo-fi level. LOL. Still sounded pretty damn good. I found the main vox a little hot for my taste (ducks) but overall the mix was good. I found that the backing vocals actually distracted...

Longtime Lurker humbly submits a try...

Well, I got it. And here goes my rundown: I fired up the song with notepad in hand. My first thoughts were "Where is the kick drum?" Granted, I am listening back on laptop speakers but when referenced to other material your kick was non-existant. The snare hits are very inconsisitent. If that...

increasing output levels via Pro Tools

Well, you could probably compress it to bring the audio levels up. Unfortunately, in my experience, it is always best to get a good level going into the machine than trying to bring stuff up afterwards.

Does more tracks = Lush recordings? Whats the trick?

Wow, you might also post some of your opinions on what IS lush and full to YOU. I have always found the Pumpkin albums to be very noisy and muddy. (MY opinion.) So, when you use them as an analogy I almost cannot tell what you really want. :) What other albums do you think sound full?

    First post - First Project!

To expand on GH's advice. One other trick for creating a good vox atmosphere is to record 3 vox tracks. Set two of them back in the back hrad left and right and keep them pretty dry. Then keep your main right up the middle with some reverb to your liking. This fattens things up nicely without it...

Scott, thanks for the posts and the enlightenment. Now, here something for you to chew on. When I mixed down after my 32-bit session (now the file should be 16-bit because that is how I am set up in cool edit). Then i convert the sample to 44.1. Now, we are 16-bit/44.1 and when you play the wave...

    Urgent Problem

Tukkis is right. If it started happening after the ram was installed then take the new stick out and take it back. Make sure you get the right kind of memory to match what you already have installed.
