    sounblaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX

I gave up on Soundblaster for a Delta, and never looked back.

Recording accoustic guitar: Getting rid of pick noise

A heavier pick generally produces heavier/louder playing, but most of that energy is going into the string. Of course it all depends on who's doing the playing, but a light pick CAN be noisier in relation to the level of the useable tone of the string. The thin plastic can also give more of the...

Can I transpose recorded AUDIO in Sonar 2.2XL?

You guys are still doing the "H" thing?? Didn't you ever question why the alphabet went A, H, C, D, E, F, G?

Yes, a double-sharp has a x-like symbol, usually a little squat looking, with tiny squares on the tips of the lines. There is another version of the symbol which has dots between the lines, but I've always hated that one, so I don't remember exactly what it looks like. I figured ## would be...

Can I transpose recorded AUDIO in Sonar 2.2XL?

Bb is a WHOLE step below C, not a half step. Sonar's built-in pitch shifter may or may not do what you want. Certainly seems extreme, when you could just play the part a whole step higher. Orchestral players do this all the time when they encounter older classical pieces that call for a C...

Red Wire songs - feedback appreciated

Thanks for the comments. I'm glad you can appreciate rule-breaking, as it's what a lot of my music is about. That song has a lot of very contrasting elements, but somehow all feels very natural together. It borrows from rock, funk, grunge, jazz, classical, ambient, and avant-garde without...

    Not confusing if you just remember that ALL diminished, minor, major, and augmented chords based on Db, D, or D# contain the letters D, F, and A. That's just the way tertian harmony works. Db, Fb, Abb Db, Fb, Ab Db, F, Ab Db, F, A D, F, Ab D, F, A D, F#, A D, F#, A# D#, F#, A D#, F#, A# D#...

Recording accoustic guitar: Getting rid of pick noise

Another thought occured to me. You might be able to limit the picking sound just by altering the angle at which the mic is pointed. I haven't done a lot of live instrument recording, so it's just off the top of my head.

Recording accoustic guitar: Getting rid of pick noise

Could just be sloppy playing... Try having the guitarist change the pick to a heavier weight, or alter the placement or angle of the pick. If they don't want to adjust, perhaps some multiband compression might act as a "de-picker?" Or perhaps you can mix the close and near mics to get a...

Between C and D. A flat lowers a note one half-step (next closest piano key downward), while a sharp raises it. So Db is one piano key lower than D. This note is enharmonically equivalent to (sounds the same as) C#. If you look at the keys, you will see why this is so.

To be precise, Db minor contains an Fb, not an E. Looks the same on your keyboard, but not on paper.

Red Wire songs - feedback appreciated

Hi all, It's been ages since I've put a song up, but I feel ready to share again. I've been working for about two years on my album (mostly in the last six months), and I'm going in for a final mastering session with my engineer on Monday. Here's a couple of samples: The Mystery We Bear...

Cubase Vs. Protools vs. anything else

Re: Re: Goddammit... Add another voice to the Sonar 2 vote! I think the "serious" choices are between Sonar, Pro-Tools, and Cubase. The are all hard-hitters packed with goodies.

    singing help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget that lower harmonies are pretty typical as well. If the melody has the tonic, a harmony can be a fourth or sixth below. I particularly like harmonies in sixths, or better yet, those that move in contrary motion or oblique motion.

    pick a band name :(

I agree with glynb... soulshaker is better than soulshiver. I'm not sure why. Or go for my two favorite unused: Crumblebunny or Big Plastic Head Grab 'em while they're hot!

    Taking the Plunge

Here's a completely different approach... won't work for everyone. Most of my songs begin with the music already in a well-developed state before the words come. When I feel there is a need to lay down lyrics, I just start listening to the music, and humming melody. Eventually, I just know that...

Immovable Mover - CD Released, Website Up

I poked around, but I couldn't figure out how to get to the mp3s. I clicked on "media," then saw something mentioning mp3 clips, but no actual working links to take me there.

nowhereradio, mp3.com, IUMA are they any use?

It's a shame how far mp3.com has fallen over the years. I've been a member for a long, long time, and have seen the removal of money paid for listens to "unsubscribed" members, pop-ups overwhelming the site, minimum prices of CDs almost triple, and the latest insult... a maximum of three songs...

Sonar ? How are you guys mixing down?

I've never had any problem with my Sonar mixes, up to 32 audio tracks, even. The export to .wav function sounds great, and levels do not seem to change at all. I have a 2.53ghz Pentium4 XP machine with 256mb ram, and a Delta44 card. I just upgraded, and didn't have any problems with my older...
