Ear fatigue or time for vacation?

preach brotha..I don't know how many mixes I would've gotten fired for had I not done many "save-as"

Pro Tools 8.0: Possibly the greatest

I am convinced after 3 weeks of recording, this is the BEST pro tools ever built. At home, I am currently using Windows XP Pro (yes no mac) with 3 gigs ram installed..If you want to know about chipset and video driver info PM me..but the system is tweaked of course, for best performance. And...

    Latency with firewire

Make sure your DAE buffer is low as well, and adjust the "mix" knob until you can't hear it. You will have to turn up your headphone mix, or your headphone volume itself when you do this though

    mbox 1 : any good?

No it is a good macine..It's just that you suffer doing some things (as far as speed and latency) if you need to use it heavy. Im a hands on guy, and have some picky artists..But definitely I agree, if its a one on one with an understanding artist, Mobox gets the job done

Ear fatigue or time for vacation?

i did an internship a while ago with a mixing engineer who used to say, take a day and mix the song..Take frequent breaks..Once you're finished, even if you don't like it..print it..then come back the next day, and do another mix (depending on the clients budget). I guess this was in part...

Microphone picking up the music from the headphones while recording HELP!!!!

Is it really that bad like TeyshaBlue said. That's a normal thing in the recording process. You can try using a gate and setting your threshold to around the point where the music is coming in. But more than likely it will disappear when all the other tracks are playing, so it won't be...

Ear fatigue or time for vacation?

I've noticed lately that when I first begin my work day I can hear everything pristine clear and concise. After about an hour (monitoring at a relatively low level) I don't hear slight changes as well anymore..I take a break come back..but its never as good as when I first turned on the...

    Out of curiousity:

I tried this last night on a rather poor vocal performance I was way too lazy to have the artist come and re-sing (it wouldn't have made sense either way, he has poor vocal control) So I figured why not experiment..Some not so clever usage made the tail ends of the notes sustain longer, lending...

AT 4040 vs. Rode NT1-A vs. SP C1

I'll kick it off by saying the Rode is a solid all around mic that can be used in so many different applications...And it has like no noise floor to it..Only thing I find is its not as bright as one may want for hip hop..but it definitely gives presence and a good proximity effect..Good tool to...

    Out of curiousity:

ok, my usual vocal chain for instance is dynamics as inserts and then I send the pre or post fader to an aux with a verb if necessary..I normally insert the verb in stereo..but I've never inserted it as multi-mono or mono for that instance..was wondering what practical applications others have...

    Too Dead

Now you are understanding my dilema..but the more I try to explain it is the more I think of other things to try to trouble shoot. The issue is I love how the room sounds for mixing, but do not like how it sounds for recording..and I once used to like that sound..so something is either...

    Out of curiousity:

SouthSide Glen and all the other everyday mixers..I was curious..I know I don't mix as much as you guys, but I have yet to run into a situation where I have used reverb in mono, or multi mono and was wondering what practical applications you have found if any for these?

    Too Dead

lol well lets put it like this..my computer fan goes at about 20db..and even though I hear it, its not a painfully dreadful clash when music is playing and Im mixing..so for my situation one or two 17db peaks or nulls is acceptable, and I compensate for it well My apologizes for the use of...

DVerb eminating extremely loud digital static noise...

Just to add my two cents, I have had this problem..I got rid of it by doing a fresh install and updating the ilock drivers..it seems that PACE was creating some sort of conflict with Dverb..probably no doubt due to some out of date driver for Dverb. I noticed it doesn't work well either when...

    mbox 1 : any good?

For the price, you can't do much better than the Mbox 1..esp for what its going for nowdays. I got it with 6.4 and still use it for some quick ideas at home...which sometimes make it to the final mix! The pre's are so-so in my opinion...They are focusrite brand but only have like 40db gain...

    Too Dead

I do understand the nuisances of room acoustics on a general level for competency in my job. However, the issue here are the recordings, not the monitoring of the recording. My experience is completely contradictory to what I measure. I am getting a severely "suppressed" sound most of the...

Type of glass to use for booth "window"?

Check Table 3 on this page http://www.eplastics.com/Plastic/Plastics_Library/Plexiglass-Noise-Reduction In my humble experience, 3/8" glass is really thick and heavy...You will have to put heavier headers to hold it in place...but you can achieve the same noise reduction with a piece of plexi...

    Too Dead

I recently installed my "control room" in a spare bedroom in my house away from the studio. So far installed: *4 corner basstraps (ceiling to floor) - constructed of two layers 9-1/2" thick r-30 batt insulation compressed to 4" covered by a light cotton blend (similar to burlap) * 2 sidewall...
