Luodness or dynamcs - what would You sacriifice?

Well, l if you are preparing for vinyl distribution you would usually (esp. for 4 on the floor type music) create a separate vinyl master and roll of some stuff lower than 35hz..But then, I've seen mastering engineers roll off some hi's for vinyl as well..Point being the analog wave and digital...

How long does it usually take...

for you to mix vocals? At work I can bang it out fairly quickly at my rate (bout 2 to 3 hours, plus coming back the next day to see if I need to clean everything up..total of around 5 hours)..But of course at home in my hobby studio, it takes like a week! Do I just suck at using my home studio...

Luodness or dynamcs - what would You sacriifice?

Best answer IMO.. but then again, most of you are making rock and roll or ballads, so you are all right, in the end, a home recording being played on one of these "indie" music sites really wouldn't need to be in that pissing contest..But once you get commercial, opinions go out the door and...

ALL track levels in the red zone, but no sound

Had the same exact problem and it ended up being an Ilock problem. One of my plugins didn't work and the Ilock made it even worst (sorry, can't explain it better..Im not a tech head). try getting a new ilock, or removing all ur plugins and putting them back in the plugin folder one by one...

Error 9073 - Drive to slow... any fixes???

Are you recording to the system drive? You may have "cleaned up some preference files that you needed. Try backing up, then trash your PT preferences and see if it works. I also noticed that on LE versions, if you are using an external HD, too much traffic on one USB pci card can also create...

    Vocals...

Best answer to a question with a question I've heard in a while... Mixteco: if indeed you need to use such high levels of ratio on compression, u may want to try this: make a copy of the processed vocal, ...on the copy of the vocal, place an eq on the insert, search for your frequency that...

    loud vs soft vocals

u def. gotta get a lil closer to ur mic and turn down ur input..maybe even istall a pad on ur mic line before ur pre amp to avoid clipping the MIC at higher volumes..most ppl seem to forget that they can actually clip a mic and think its a phenomena reserved for pre amps and DAWS.. This of...

Check the completely ITB Mbox Mix

For all the mbox haters....I think you can get pretty good results...this is all mbox, and synths.....and a Rode NT1-A mic. Did this as a favor to a friend in his home. I composed it then we laid down the vocals over the space of 2 days. I have some bass traps and treatments at my home that...

Should I take this offer or is it shady? Please help!!!!!

Not necessarily saying that this is your case, but I have dealt with this line before. Essentially it's a sales pitch to try and get some of his songs placed with your band, so that he can build up his writing credits. He's covering his tracks by saying that he has sold all his rights away, so...

    3d mixing

This is a good tip, unfortunately, freezing/locking tracks in PT is a pain in the ass for very large sessions on LE. It's probably easier just to record your tracks to an Aux and then make the tracks in question inactive...Unless of course you have a nice HD system back at the real lab to work with

    protools mbox, only 2 inputs?

dude, I'm not saying that you will be able to record onto 16 individual tracks into pro tools, I'm saying that if you wanted to, you can use S/PDIF as an extender..that is y I said it DEPENDS on how you want to use your system..It's the same as if I take an analogue board with 48 inputs, run it...

    bouncng down ruins mixes.

allegedly, you lose very minute amounts of sound quality as well..esp. when doing bit conversions, hence why pro tools recommends dithering even when bouncing files that are already 16bit

    protools mbox, only 2 inputs?

I understand what you're saying, but this doesn't exactly deal with the point I'm trying to make. He can still use for instance, an A/D converter with lets say, 16 I/O's and presumably extend his I/O count to 17 with the original Mbox. I believe you are referring to the actual Mbox unit not...

    3d mixing

I've heard this plug-in in action..pretty nice tool to have in the arsenal. Seems to be a DSP hog to use on multiple tracks though. But its worth a shot..thanks. Mixst That's also great advice..thanks

Besides reverb and eq, what else do you guys do to get a real noticeable separation bet. front/back and left/right?

    protools mbox, only 2 inputs?

Are you referring to my post? If you are the original Mbox comes with a S/PDIF I/O. If you connect that to a A/D converter that also has S/PDIF you can increase the number of I/O. I've done it myself and seen it done many times...The most problems you might have is world clock, which I have...
