aw crap. i think i fried something

Alright. Begin with the simple stuff. Try cleaning out your jacks. If you aren't too remote for a Radio Shack grab yourself some tuner/contact cleaner and spray some into your jacks. Then work a plug in and out of those same jacks several times. Now spray each again for good measure. Next I...

Old Track Redone VOX Added - Opinions?

I'm unsure how many peeps here actually *get* my sound. But I know a few do enjoy it. Aphasia Complex - Track 7 here: http://www.somnium7.com/ Just remixed it from the ground up and added the VOX tracks. Mixed mostly in the box and then the entire mix run out to analog gear to kick it into...

    Roland jx-3p

My bad, I was mistaken about this instrument using that 80017A device. However the problem with it is still the same - a dead (or dying) voice channel. http://fa.utfs.org/diy/jx3p/jx3p_schem.htm Go there for schematics if you want to give it a shot. :)

    Roland jx-3p

The muted note is a bad filter/amp chip. They are proprietary parts that Roland no longer supplies. Email me to remind me to look up the guy who makes custom replacements for this.

    Just got a new 388!

That machine was my first R2R too. I didn't have a clue about using it when I got it home. The manual told me everything I needed to know to get rolling though. Don't freak out. Just start reading, trying and understanding your machine. You'll be fine. They aren't as fragile as you think.

    Why analogue and not digital?

By the physics of it, sound is naturally analog in nature. This could lead some to infer that it would sound best to record it in an analog format. Problem is that analog recording mediums and other gear do not behave according to the math applied to their designs. They are full of flaws, e.g...

feedback please - "on my side"

The synthesizer sounds are cool as fuck. Nice job with them. Bass seemed a little overpowering - though that might be my room which has some serious modes. Overall it's quite listenable. I like.

Advice for Interview as Sound Man/Engineer?

At this point I know nothing about their budget. I know they are currently using a pretty nice local studio who's rates are published. Not a cheap joint at all. That at least gives me hope ;) Yes there is the family. I have been thinking about turning my equipment repair that I do on the side...

Chance, and others with experience in group buy ribbons...

I only have the ACM-4. I use it for female vocals and electric violin. It is nice because it tames the harshness of the violin and mellows my vocalist (alto & second soprano) who at times can be ear-piercing. I have spoken into both sides of it and from that I feel it might be better suited to...

Rip Da SysTeM - DIY Patchcords

Most of the above will apply to XLR cables. Since those are physically larger it is actually alot easier to work with them. I only wish I had a tube mic - gosh people are so spoiled... ;)

Rip Da SysTeM - DIY Patchcords

Your 2 inch slice of heatshrink should look like this now: Next slide the insulator sleeve up onto the connector body as far as it will go: All that is left is to screw on the backshell. Repeat the above steps for the other side of the cable. Be sure you have put your backshell, insulator...
