Speaking of which, I wish the C1 and other SP mics had been on the 3D Mic CD. The ADK A51 is on there, but not any SP stuff. :confused:

She needs to be more “in your face”. I’m thinking a V69 and/or a good Joe Meek optical compressor.

I've got a PL95A. Sounds almost just like my later model EV ND series mics, only not as much output. The PLs are not very hot mics to begin with, so I'd say one of yours is defective. Could've been damaged along the way - no real way to tell.

You could start eliminating things and see. You might hear a greater difference with some pres than others. Same with A/D converters. Do you have a good stand-alone pre you could re-test them with?

Bgavin, Is there any way you could put up mp3 samples of the session and post a link to them? I think this would solve many issues. Plus, I would love to hear them! :D

Also, Kottke didn't mention what pre he was going into. Go here and listen to the AT4050 clips from Session 1. Notice how they sound very different depending on the preamp being used and you'll see my point.

I haven’t found the holy-grail position for acoustic guitar either. All that “over the shoulder” stuff doesn’t work for me. It might be the bees knees for finger picking or pop/rock styles, but it brings out way too much pick attack for flatpicking.

It's rumored that their "B" series sports the 6 micron 794 capsules, which are the best Chinese capsules available, IMHO. Can't speak for the electronics and grille designs, though.

It's going to get really confusing if people can put "Banned" under their name when they are really not. Per- I think you have to have a certain number of post in order to gain access to that signature line. I forgot how many, though. :confused:

The pres in your Mackie are just fine for now. However, you must get a better mic. Do a search on something like "The best mic under $..." or "The best mic for...", etc... and read all you can.

I tried several 2SK170BL's in mine and they all sounded thinner to me. I ended up leaving the stock FET in there - sounds fuller and more musical in MHO. Now that you mention it, I thought it sounded better with the original resistors in it too. I know it doesn't make sense (Believe me I know...
