    Quitting

It never occurred to me to remove music from my life. Just the unrealistic expectations. Dean

    firewire

In the near future, I can see the possibility of having to go mobile with this gear. Continuous setting up and breaking down can beat the you know what out of cables and connectors. I have already taken steps to make things neater and more organized in the back of the racks. This in itself...

    firewire

Dgatwood I tried gently coaxing the firewire connector back together. I ended up buggering the thing up worse. MOTU told me they will swap it for another unit for fifty dollars. I gotta get OMA and do that soon. In the mean time, Im going to try using two foot extensions, secured to the inside...

    firewire

I have thoroughly enjoyed using a 828MKII in spite of its few faults. Those MOTU folks have certainly packed a bunch of stuff into one rack space. For the money, it does everything well, if not great. I added an additional eight inputs using the ADAT connectors. I rarely record more than three...

What Do I Need To Record

The Delta 44 is a great card.. I have one hooked up to my old DAW, now my regular home computer, in place of the onboard chip. I found it much quieter in my system than the Audiophile 2496, which seems to pick up hum, and some other weird stuff. I blame the computer not the Audiophile. M-Audio...

    firewire

You guessed it exactly... The FW cable got jerked one time and the metal seam separated. I'll need to either send the unit back to MOTU, or replace the connector myself. As tightly as the pack these things, I'm sure that'll be a pain in the ......... DinoG

What Do I Need To Record

A few thoughts from an old guy brandon, First of all, what audio equipment do you have access to? Computers get old very quickly, regardless of quality. Well made mikes and electronics will work for decades. Which do you think you should buy first? If your good at troubleshooting computers, use...

    firewire

May I ask why you feel that firewire is the way for you to go? I switched from a PCI card interface to a firewire one and I'm not sure it was the right decision for me. I'm making it work, but sometimes I wish I had left the firewire buss for hard drive use only. As an aside, I have damaged one...

    Just dont care anymore

Meeting pretty girls... Isn't that the reason you got into music in the first place? That's how I met my wife, thirty three years ago. I don't see the problem here! Tell her how much she inspires you Write her a damn song. Do the "sensitive guy" thing. I just don't understand you young dudes...

Jumping in head first. What will I need?

First of all, start with a well paying job. You didn't mention what type of computer you'll be using. The software out there right now is unbelievably powerful, but will quickly run an undergunned computer into the ground. Unless you already have a dedicated for audio computer, I would advise...

$,1000 preamp (and mic?) for voice over

My narration/VO setup has a couple of different versions, depending on the desires of the talent. I try to use whatever I have that is closest to the talents own equipment. Recently, I had a well known voice talent in the DC area ask if I had a 414. I didn't. My default VO gear is an EV RE20...

some really basic questions about MIDI

I just scanned the thread quickly, so if this is redundant, I apologize. Your Audiophile card does not have an onboard synth, like a sound blaster. It does have a MIDI connector that can be used to send and receive Midi information. I'm a newb to Midi just as you are, but I imagine that even a...

    Help! with basic recording levels

I think your on the right track with lowering your level before the converters. At 24 bit, you have a little more to play with. I thought it curious that your software isn't indicating a clipped recording. You could still be putting a hurt on the converters, enough to rough up the sound, just...

    Mac or PC?

Stick to PC...Just get something with an AGP slot so you can keep that s**t off the PCI buss.... A second HD is usually recomended, but I know several folks that are doing without one... Check out fasoft.com and the N-Track studio software before you plunk a hundred bucks on something else...

    The MusicXPC professional desktop?

XPC, still an unknown I was all set to order one of these and a couple of FW interfaces, but was talked out of it... It may indeed be a great little machine, but it's still an unproven entity.. I can't afford to be a Beta test site for XPC... It does seem to be a good idea... A ten pound box...

    New 3.0 problem

It's a 1ghz P3, 810 Intel Chipset, 512meg Crucial memory, 60/5400+40/7200 gig HD's, HP Pavillion w/ CDR...I know these things become obsolete pretty quickly but this would be ridiculous....The computer runs 2.3 perfectly... I hope N-Track support gets back to me soon. It's been over a week... Dean
