    MicroStudio (TM)

I only offered that as a alternative as you room is so small (he he ) ;);) You have to remember it's relative to the scource which is your speakers - direct sound from them will still reflect back to your rear wall. plus you can run a shelf thru the middle if you are short of shelf space. Yes...

The $1000 solution for everything audio!

What I meant about traps in a small room acoustic treatment is that you've only got so much wall space to treat and my preference, as Ed said, is towards low-mid absorption as that is the most critical area, plus straight drywall on studs is a simple panel absorber already hence Ed's figures...

Help me doing a better layout...

jumpingflash - the rendering is a gas gas gas. :):) First off - I'd put the console in the center of the desk so you get a symetrical listening position around your speakers which I assume will be in the center of the desk. Your keyboard could then be on one side at an angle maybe?? cheers john

    Pic #5 Last One

Lime Wash - here in Aussieland you can buy it ready made up but I once asked a painter to use it and he made his own. It's basically a clear varnish with slaked lime added. As at your local paint store. cheers john

    Pic #5 Last One

Looks great DD. nice work mate. May I make a suggestion ?? For that pine window framing have you considered Lime Wash?? It's clear varnish that has lime in it - it creates a whitish finish yet you can still see the grain. It also stops the pine from yellowing which I think looks like shit :)...

    Bass Trap Design??

I don't think it matters Luis. Ethan - We did a whole wall like this in a studio, the main thing was to vary the materials so plywood and masonite were used to vary the mass of the panels. In luis case he wants a drum room so we are keeping it pretty live and these panels will help attain...

The $1000 solution for everything audio!

I happen to agree with you Ed which is why I press for low-mid absorption in most cases. A standard drywall on studs is a low end panel absorber anyway and if you create a room with drywall walls in the reverb calculator at SAE it will show a lower reverb time at the low end than in the low mids...

no you didn't piss me off at all - you just voiced what I'd been thinking for awhile so I just vented because I knew exactly where you were coming from. Looks like I might be about to build Left Bank II, so there is one client who's happy to do it again in his new house anyway :):) Cheers JOhn

    Bass Trap Design??

Luis - go here and read the BBC research on panel absorbers and you'll see why I recommended 2 x 2 frames. I've also built these absorbers and they work. http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/pubs/reports/ perhaps you should read it also Ethan. cheers john

I find it interesting as to who took ed seriously and who didn't. I instantly recognised that he was refering to all the TRENDS that have appeared on this and other BBS's for the past few years.. yup it's years now. That mic test that ed mentioned worked for me to prove that most of it is BS...

The $1000 solution for everything audio!

Well I believe I can because I've spent over 30 years listening to low frequencies. i don't measure it on some scope or RTA - I listen to it. And if it works, I hear it, if it doesn't , I hear that too. So I measure it with my ears. [/B] So tell me where I've said it's bullshit - I have said I...

    Construction Question

Cool Michael send me the pics, but I don't need the pics to know the problem you face. Are you putting the ceiling on RC to the trusses?? I'd put the ceilin up first and then meet it with the walls. Unless you are doing a second ceiling there's no other way around it. You can make a saw cut...

How is this for a plan???

Firstly - the glass door directly behind you in the control room is a no no, rear reflections. Strikes me that with such a small control room in such a big place you will spend most of the time going from the control room to the DVD Video area to see what it sounds like in a real room. ;)...
