Hooking up an external mixing board to my 4 track cassette

The only point I could see of using an external board is if you can output the tracks from the four tracker individually to perhaps use a more comprehensive eq section, more aux. sends, busses and insert points of an external mixer. I also think most four trackers don not have tape outputs for...

Are there inserts on the tascam?

Stuck in a rutt (proper recording procedure?)

Also packing blanket amp tent and kick tunnel can help when recording live, especially small spaces. Di bass then reamping is another option too. Rock out with your cock out!

Stuck in a rutt (proper recording procedure?)

Recording a live band in a small space can be troublesome. Watch phasing and try to baffle if you can. Another option is to record drum/bass together then overdub guitars/vocals.

Stuck in a rutt (proper recording procedure?)

This is why you go to a recording studio. You can set up and play live. All the amps can be isolated. Even the drums can have their own room. Overdub at will without worrying about bleed. The studio is a microscope. If you don't sound good playing live at a studio I highly recommend not...

    yep pro-tools still sucks

Yeah I can't give out unreleased material. All tracks were played off a studer 2" and mixed on a Neve 5316 console using only outboard gear. No digital outboard was ever used. The Master Bus went to protools Hd system at 24/96 for a 2 track stereo mixdown and then to the ampex atr-102 1/2"...

    yep pro-tools still sucks

Ummm I've been engineering for over 25 years. I have my own studio and freelance at others. This particular session of which you I spoke of I had access to a tube tech stereo compressor, a dbx 160, a dbx 162, an 2x 1176, an 1178, 2 la3's, a 2 distressors, a spectrasonics 610, a la2a and a...

    yep pro-tools still sucks

Another factor is cost. This session I'm mentioning also cost around $800 for used tape. People pay this because it really sounds good and is worth it. The band after experiencing this felt happy and justified for paying for the tape and definitely felt it was worth the cost. Don't get me...

    yep pro-tools still sucks

The contention being a raw mix off the 1/2" killed the raw mix into from the pro-tools turd delivery system yet again.

    yep pro-tools still sucks

All right I watched the set up clip. They are not mixing off of tape. They are comparing an analog console mix to a protools. I mixed off of and onto tape. TAPE! Besides SSL on board dynamics are questionable, especially the compressors

Awesome listen to the quality of protools presented by digidesign on compressed audio over computer speakers.

    yep pro-tools still sucks

Just to clarify all tracking was done on a Studer 827 24 track 2" and Mixed on a Neve 5316. The only difference was mixdown to a protools HD system then to the Ampex 1/2". The 1/2" mix killed the digital mix. It was obviously apparent. How would you great well of knowledge about the...

    yep pro-tools still sucks

I'd forgotten how much digital sucks. I worked at a studio a few days ago that has a pro-tools hd system and a ampex atr-102 1/2" mixdown deck. Unfortunately the 1/2" went down and we had to send it out for emergency repair and were hoping to get it back the next day. We continued on with the...

    YOUR Biggest improvement yet !!!!

Finding out the secret to making a good recording is recording good sounds in a good room. As long as you know what you are doing it is impossible to make a bad recording when the initial sounds are good. If a shitty band with shitty sounds come in you get shit. That's why high end studios...
