    What's the sound difference btwn MXL603 & Oktava MC012?

Someone here (forgot who) posted mp3s of acoustic guitar clips comparing the two. You have to use the "Search" function to find it, unless someone has a link handy.

    New MXL Tube Condenser Mic???...

Where'd you get this? The V69 doesn't have a transformer, unless they changed the design since the last time I looked in one, and I doubt the V77 (no longer made) had one either. I'm sure it's a re-packaged V69. It could have a few tweaks here and there, but probably same board, capsule, etc...

    The Last Oktava Mk319!!!!

There is no reason why they shouldn't let you test it. Plug it into a mic preamp or mixer that has a headphone jack, bring up the gain to around 35 - 40 dB, and listen while you speak or sing into it from about 5-6 inches away. It should have plenty of low-end without being real boomy, and a...

KEL HM-1.... A cheap "Darker" Mic???

It's $99, now. Kel has also come out with a new front address LDC that looks like a big dynamic mic called the HM-4. http://www.kelaudio.com/ourproducts.html

    Oktava deal at GC

I still like that mic. I keep going back and listening to clips I did with it about a year ago thinking my taste might have changed, and it just keeps sounding as good as ever. It somehow has a full, real sound without being harsh or muddy. Of course that's my opinion on my voice, so as others...

    Small Diaphram Vocal Mic Suggestions

They come apart very easy. Just remember to screw the screws in, not out. Works just like an XLR connecter.

    Small Diaphram Vocal Mic Suggestions

You know, maybe you should try one of these with a LOMO head. That might just be what you need.

Replacing that crappy ceramic cap between the capsule and FET with a 1000pF polystyrene will fix that!

Help: Mic Decisions and My Trip to Guitar Center

Yep... and the next step is ~$500 more for a John Hardy or Great River. Funny thing about the Grace 101 is from what I've heard, it uses an IC type circuit similar to the DMP3 - just with very good components... makes all the difference in the world! (Plus they can charge a lot more for it. ;)...

Help: Mic Decisions and My Trip to Guitar Center

The C414 is a keeper, espeacially for $602! However, once you make the mic purchase, I'd upgrade that pre ASAP. You are only solving half of your problem...

    Small Diaphram Vocal Mic Suggestions

I had two of them - both were too noisey and one even more noisey than the other.

    Small Diaphram Vocal Mic Suggestions

I'd stay away from it. A friend of mine whose opinion I trust highly, said it wasn't any good and was very difficult to take apart for modifications.

    Another point for the MK012!

    Small Diaphram Vocal Mic Suggestions

Yep, tried that the other day on a female vocal - not bad at all. You're correct about the pop filter too. I used my Stedman filter and still had to keep her over a foot away because of popping P's.

    Clear budget preamp

Thanks, chess... I have this pdf, but forgot about the component layout being in it. (Doh!) Yep, looks like surface-mount... Oh well.

    Clear budget preamp

I'd sure love to see the inside of these - If they use surface-mount input coupling caps, they'll sound muddy just because of that. Not saying they do, just wondering out loud... The surface-mount input coupling caps usually used in products like this have higher ESR and are not good for low...

Help: Mic Decisions and My Trip to Guitar Center

Middleman's correct about the DMP3 not being the best pre for mic comparisions, but if that's all you have, then it's all you have. To echo dr.colossus, test them on the pre you are using them with, because that is what they're going to sound like. OTOH, if I were you and was going to spend...

    BLUE Mic Preamp: Robbie

Have not heard one, but several folks I respect have a they say it is unreal! They say it blows away anything in it's price range. I guess we'll soon find out. It was way bigger in person than I was expecting, too.

    wow - mxl v69

There are two types of condensers - FET and Tube. You can use FET condensers after they've been on a few seconds. It's not super critical, but I'd let it warm up for at least 15-30 min. Tube condensers, otoh, require certain warm up times for things to stabilize and the sound be at it's best...
