That is certainly a strange problem, and yes, it could be a number of things. Again, you need to call MXL and ask them about it. This pc board is no fun to repair. The traces lift like crazy! They will more than likely repair it and ship it back to you free, whether you bought it new or not. You...
Because sometimes the difference is a vast improvement. I was just pointing out that in this case, I'm looking for alternate ways to do the 603 mods.
BTW, the V67G is one of the ones that can be greatly improved. For example, the V69 is basically a modified V67 - the mxl guys opened the hood...
Or the other way around, but it's probably the 603 if preamp 1 is working well with all the other mics. Sometimes moisture causes that, but it's still confusing since your other mics are ok. Sounds like a faulty component. Send it back to MXL - they have a great warranty!
Ok, so this thread’s turning into a trash-heap already and the PMI guys haven’t even posted yet. Bad idea on my part, I guess. I’ll just get the low-down on my own – privately!
(Sorry Gidge - I really wish we could edit and/or delete our own threads here! :( )
I was actually one of the ones that originally helped Shane out with this modification over at the Lab. I have performed this mod several times, but to be honest, I like them better stock, at least on acoustic guitars, anyway. No doubt that the capacitors used are far superior to the stock...
This forum is supposed to be about the "CS" series, not the "E" series. I screwed up the thread title and now it won't let me change it!
Mr. Moderator: Can you fix the title please?
Tell us about this new Studio Projects “CS” series!
Since we are privileged to have most of the Studio Projects gang active here, I, a total unassociated “business” entity (no gratuities, wages, salaries, tips, free samples, kickbacks, etc, etc, etc…), and a very active and contributing forum...
I know this thread is C1 related, but I'm anxious to try the new Studio Projects offerings. Do you think it would be ok if one of us started a new thread and invited Brent to talk about them, or would that be spaming? I sure would like to hear his take on them and I bet other's here would too!
Hehe, that's always the catch, bottom line, or whatever... You get what you pay for! :p
Seriously though, there is some good info here, so hang around. :)
Han's post is great! Everyone who's really interested needs to read his post until it melts into your head... There is simply no "best" mic for everything - not even when you have top-of-the-line Neumanns.
I also understand slobbermonster's point of view and he makes a very good point. When...
There's other forums doing group buys as well. No reason why you can't do one here. Just takes someone with enough time to do it. We could even put our own name on it. Call it the "HR Special" or something.
Can't say I would have known it was a Neumann - there are other great sounding European mics besides them. But, I can say without a doubt that in a blind test I would certainly have picked the Neumann because of its wonderful midrange and smooth top, as stated above. Nothing to do with prejudice...
As for Behringer, I'm currently eyeing the ULTRAMATCH PRO SRC2496 24-Bit/96 kHz A/D-D/A & Sample Rate Converter for only $130.
Consider this: The 8 channel ADA8000 uses 26/48 converters and it is reportedly a decent sounding unit. That's saying a lot considering you have to go through those...
