    Oktava mods are back

Sorry I forgot to answer this for everyone, but I think Michael just did. Don't know for sure, but I'm betting the improvements are similar.

Where is Marik? Haven't heard from him in a while...

Mic & Preamp Mods I Have Done...

It's probably fine - I wouldn't touch it. I'd be more concerned about the capacitors, but that's just me. ;)

Mic & Preamp Mods I Have Done...

I recently did an op amp and tube upgrade to a Bellari RP503. Although that quietened it down considerably, you could still hear 60hz buzz at high gain settings because of the crappy power supply transformer. I don't know about the MIC200, but if it doesn't use a toroidal, I'd toss the stock...

Mic & Preamp Mods I Have Done...

I've been wondering about the SM-81s myself. It'd be interesting to know what he does to them.

Scott Dorsey Modded LD Condenser Mic

You crack me up, lol! Looks like a great deal - someone better grab it (The mic, that is. The picture would be totally worthless unless you need something to keep the crows out of your garden.)

Good info, KV. Thanks for tracking all that down. By the way, have you seen the V67i yet?

    Which mic for upright bass?

The last time my bluegrass band recorded, we ended up using two Earthworks (like the ECM8000s) in an up/down oriented x-y position in front of the bass, close to where the neck attaches to the body. The result was quite impressive!

    Oktava mods are back

Actually that would probably work well, but try 5Gs first - they may sound as good or even better!

    Oktava mods are back

I've used 2.5Gs which worked fine, but don't know about 5Gs. Are they small enough that you could put two in parallel? That would make 2.5Gs. Mouser.

    Oktava mods are back

I had this one online at one time, but the location was the same as my email and I got spammed to death. When I tried to deactivate the address, I lost everything I had up loaded. As far as mods they are similar between capsule and the FET. After that they are more different. The FETs in the...

    Oktava mods are back

For the record, I replaced the ceramic cap between the FET and capsule with a polystyrene (my "condenser mic guru" friend, Gus Smalley turned me on to these), replaced the stock FET with a 2SK170BL, the electrolytic cap between the FET's source and the bi-polar's base with a poly-film, and...

    Marshall MXL-2001 mod

I was just going to say, and I sold it to kidvybes! I liked it a lot. It basically opens up the sound, kind of like if you pulled some cotton out of your ears. It causes the circuit to become mostly transparent so that you are mainly just hearing the capsule. The results are very similar to...

    Marshall MXL-2001 mod

It’s perfectly alright. You were posting while I was editing it into mine. I started to edit mine back out, but I figured two links are better than one, haha.

    Marshall MXL-2001 mod

That would be the "Dorsey" mod. Here's a link to it.

    Marshall MXL-2001 mod

...or the re-laminate the transformer and change the capacitors mod? ;)

    AT 4050 problem?

Yes. it's normal. Switching on phantom power and p/u patterns causes a loud "POP" with just about any multipatrern condensor mic.
