    leopard

Check the DUC. Apparently people are having completely mixed results. Stuff I've seen firsthand, is 7.4 not running in leopard, 7.3 running with some wierd menu glitches going on, 10.5 not recognizing mboxes. I've yet to see it running 100% fine on 10.5 I just started school for audio...

    Virtual surround?

Genaudio has something called 4d sound which is supposed to be able to do full on 3d surround from 2 speakers. I haven't heard it or anything, but I'm assuming its entirely dependent on room acoustics for the most part.

    Synth samples?

Doesn't cubase come with a couple software synths? They probably have some presets that you could use.

    Tutorial on mixing?

Yes, you're 100% right. It's actually the "nice" harmonics that end up being around 800hz. Over time I've kind of trained myself to think of these as the "fundamentals" because boosting the actual fundamentals usually just ends up adding mud, I've found. Sorry for the confusion! Haha, my...

    Tutorial on mixing?

I'm not sure if its available on the amps or not. Maybe someone else can clarify? Anyways, bose ps-1 mode is a setting on podxt to optimize it's output signal for a bose ps-1 PA setup. (the soundsticks) To my ears, this setting, when used direct for recording, sounds way less "fizzy" and...

    Tutorial on mixing?

well, to be exact, you're right, the bass guitar fundamental is much lower than that. Around 100-200 hz. But I've usually found the "meat" of the bass sound that adds punch in my mixes is around there.

    Tutorial on mixing?

But guys, he's using a podxt, so he's probably not micing a bunch of stuff. Think of eq less as a tool to make things sound good (although it can be used like that) and more of a way to fine tune stuff later. Also think of it as a way to place different instruments. ie, the fundamental notes...

Which bass combo for home recording?

amplitube ampeg svx Seriously, this sounds AMAZING. Even Butch Walker uses it!

    PC or Mac for recording?

"ps- If you go to the store and buy one it is "New" or at least I hope it would be." In any case, a g5 wouldn't cost $2500. It's a few generations old at this point. An 8 core intel mac pro starts around $2800.

    PC or Mac for recording?

Yes, and that's great! I'm not denying anyone that a PC can run amazing - with some work! All I'm putting forth is what is running in most major commercial studios, and therefore, what you need to be able to work with if you want to have a career in one of them! Mac + Pro Tools.

    PC or Mac for recording?

Out of all the major commercial studios in the world - I'm talking serious studios tracking major label stuff - probably upwards of 95% are running pro tools on a mac, a handful may run logic, and a minute percentage being people running cubase/nuendo on mac/pc, PT on pc, or sonar. I'm not...

Got it. It's command+tilde if anyone is wondering!

    Reason screen switching on mac?

Hey all, I've recently switched to mac and am getting used to the differences in workflow. When I work in reason in windows, I'm used to alt-tabbing between my rack and sequencer when I have the sequencer detached. Is there an equivalent to this in osx? Command tabbing only switches to other...

    PC or Mac for recording?

Was that a response to me? If so.... I wasn't talking about value. I was talking about reliability and stability. Two different things. Besides, Macs are slightly more expensive, but not a ton more expensive really when you look at the high qend parts that mac uses. For instance... my...

    PC or Mac for recording?

I think for most recording that people are doing on here... what people are saying is true. Mac=PC. Exactly the same. Just as powerful. Definitely true. However... If you're serious about really getting into PRO recording. You NEED a mac. There is a reason that nearly EVERY pro studio in...

Have you made the switch? (desktop->laptop, pc->mac)

What "general" piece of hardware have you had fail that you've been able to fix yourself? Just out of curiosity. I was a pc user for about 20 years and built tons of machines, but if I ever had a piece of hardware fail, I wouldn't have the slightest clue as how to repair electronics like that...

Have you made the switch? (desktop->laptop, pc->mac)

You don't. They do it for you!! I bought my macbook pro at a bestbuy and when I got it home, there was a problem with the lcd. I took it to the nearest apple store and the guy went in the back and came out with a brand new computer for me! Would that ever happen if I built it myself?? NO...

Do you really buy that expensive recording software?

No, that is EXACTLY my point. If you can't afford these... maybe you don't need them yet. For a studio that is doing lots of work and pulling in a bunch of money, $500 is a small price to pay for something that will help them turn out better work and, in turn, make even more money.

    Mbox 2 or Lexicon Omega?

Any system you're buying that is new from a retailer should come with 7.4. The one thing you may want to watch out for... read digidesign's pc compatibility stuff carefully. Protools is VERY picky about what it needs to run and run well on a pc. This caused me to abandon protools on pc back...

Do you really buy that expensive recording software?

I hate when people say stuff to the effect of "recording software wouldn't be so expensive if people didn't use cracked software." You forget that these programs are tools to make money yourself!! If I cut an album with the newest version of sonar, and that album goes on to become huge and...
