    Weezer's Pinkerton Sound

Have you seen Weezer's DVD, "Video Capture Device." They have a segment on the recording of the Pinkerton album. I should watch it again. Also, Pat just loves the drums on Pinkerton and hates all the other albums.

    Listen UP, Listen to this

Could anyone tell me what they do to really make the kick drum cut through the mix and still sound deep. I can't seem to accomplish this feat.

    Recomendations

I love Sabian AA's. I have two 17" Fast Crashes that are my bread and butter. Just my opinion.

    A's or E's?

I'm just a fan of real instruments. Listening to a great jazz record and the way they get so much out of their instruments. If I was a piano player would I want to record a piano or a keyboard? The real thing always takes the cake. I've never even thought about buying an "E" set. I've...

Hanging blankets and stopping snare buzzing

for a demo recording, I don't think a little snare buzz wll be very noticable. This was something I used to always fret about. For some reason I haven't even thought about it lately. i think it you're hitting the drums hard, the snare buzz is so small, compared to the sound of the toms that...

    China Cymbals

I've got a Sabian AA Fast China, it's 17", or 18". It's got a nice fast decay so that it explodes and then cools down quick. It also sounds cool for like quarter note ride paterns, or off beat rides.

    Listen UP, Listen to this

Hangdawg, thanks for the listen and the critique. I agree with you for the most part, but I think its listenable. I know it's not studio quality, but for where I recorded it and with the crappy gear I have, and the fact that I have like no engineering skills. I thought it was good enough...

    Listen UP, Listen to this

So anyways, my buddy who I record with, he got married earlier this year. Since he got married, he sold his Gibson guitar, sold his Marshall half stack. Now he plays this crappy les paul copy he bought on ebay for 50 bucks that was made in the 70's. and on this amp he found in his grandma's...

    Listen UP, Listen to this

Hangdawg, dude you are missing out. It's a free country though, so I can't force you into anything. RockerBob, thanks for the listen. Do you think the recording is a bit dull because it need something more music wise, or because it seems like it is missing something in the high's.

    New, Almost-Final Mix..."Julie"

Nice Song! I gave it a bunch of listens. Very catchy, even though I really couldn't even pick out the chorus. It all just seems to flow together, i like it. I thought the mix was very good, seems nice and even.

What do you guys think of THE BEAR AFFAIR?

I thought great song, I'm down with the Bear Affair. I would bring the bass way up at the begining. The little jazzy breakdown at around 1:30 sounds cool but the drums especially the snare are way too quiet. Good songwriting, I especially liked the arrangment. You kept the song interesting...

Please give me a brutally honest opinion

Dude, who are you? If anything all your stuff sounds like, too polished. Really good stuff. I loved the acoustic song, I would buy that cd. Why are you getting all new equipment, you seem to be getting killer results from the stuff you already have?

    Critique My Beats Please

I listened to "Blind Faith" it sounded pretty cool. It kind of hypnotized me though, like I was sitting there just in a trance and then I woke up after a few minutes and was like, "where am I." Maybe put a bridge in there or something, for a little change of pace. I know you had the drums...

    First mix...

I really liked that, especially the guitar work. I loved the solo, I wanted more. I'd keep it just like that if I were you.
