yurt - circular floor, conical cieling...

You could do it - I saw some huge setups in the top end of australia at aboriginal communities where the whole place ran off solar with diesel backup. You could easily run a studio of that. My puter is running on solar as I type. It pulls around 8 amps at 24 volts. which is around 192 watts...

    a question for Michael Jones

Yeah - I agree about the upfont coinage but I think that's just a hangover from the old days :):) Putting upfront like Frederic described I think is cool - it's part of your investment in the band, but as you are the record company I reckon you deal with their manager and if they don't have...

    a question for Michael Jones

From my experience a rational way of adding income to a studio is to become the Producer! Find a band in your town that is about to break - i.e. the street talk is that this band is about to become famous. Go and sign them up and use your downtime to record them with no time limits etc etc...

yurt - circular floor, conical cieling...

This friend of mine had a 9 sided building. The room at the top of the following drawing was his tiny control room and the rest was a big open studio. I redesigned it by adding two walls thus: cheers john

    a question for Michael Jones

I worked at Music farm in the late 70s which was that kind of setup - full chef and horse riding etc. BUt it was a serious studio with major acts who could afford it. It finally closed last year and now some international pianist lives in it :) The studio is on the right in this photo and the...

hahahah - I was in a band called "Lost Youth" with a heap of old farts!! we were a popular band :):) I adore oysters - last week I drove back from Sydney and pulled in at Karuah where I bought 6 doz in shells. Ate oysters for days ;):) Sounds like you are on a new trip mate - good luck with it...

    a question for Michael Jones

Karaoke Special - cool idea. On a grander scale I reckon someone should find a beautiful spot in the mountains/desert whatever and offer a weekend recording deal. You line up a team of really good musos and the client gets to spend the days in the studio with the musos who play whatever the...

    a question for Michael Jones

Great reply Michael - :) I find people tend to talk in days, not hours. You book the studio for a day rate over so many days, then it becomes a deal to finish the album etc. There's a lot of give and take (haggling) in this biz. :) The thing to avoid is spending all your time recording people...
