Actually you might, but probably not for its originally intended use:) However, since this is a Home Recording forum; it makes a really good bass D.I. It is also better than some of the pre-amps built into sound cards, but I... Uh...
Yes!
The Digitech Genesis3 and the GNX3 are both very cool.
I still use my J-Station a lot. Combining it with real mic'ed amp tones is the way to go. It's not like just because a couple of years have passed the J-Station suddenly doesn't sound good. Good tones are good tones.:rolleyes...
I just got the new Carvin catalog and they have a new line of dynamic drum mics. Normally I wouldn't even consider it, but these mics are VERY inexpensive. I think the kick mic is like $50. Has anyone tried them, or are they too new?
I imagine they are some chinese copies of AKG or Shure...

If you are using the S/pdif output, make sure you are using 75 Ohm cable. If it does not say 75 Ohms on the cable, it probably isn't. Regular RCA cable may pass data, but you will get distortion, pops, clicks, and other hash.

a few suggestions...
1. Make sure you aren't on a pre-amp model that has distortion.
2. Make sure you are running balanced connections throughout.
3. If you are going from balanced to unbalanced, make sure your ground integrity is uncompromised.
4. Make sure you do not have a ground...

Kent, don't sweat it. I was actually laughing when I read your post, maybe I should have put more than one smiley face down. ;)

The 266a and the 266xl are similar in function and construction. the 266xl is the 266a's successor and it has a couple more stereo features. Other than that they are almost identical.
As far as the "cheap crap" comment is concerned, I would say that the 266xl is "entry level" instead.:) It...
Cut, cut, cut...
Start cutting in the 8 to 10k region, that's where the "splat" that everyone complains about lives. BTW the hypercardioid capsule cuts a lot of this region naturally.

Mine came with two caps. IIRC, One was a presence booster (as if the C1000 needs that!). The other was a hypercardioid cap. I have the hypercardioid cap on mine permanently. I like how the hypercardioid cap sounds, it changes the high end fairly dramatically.
So, if you put a cap on your...
Good advice from littledog.
But, be aware of phase issues between the two mics. I get better results from a single dynamic. Since there is a LOT of low frequency information coming out of the bottom of a djembe the temptation is to mic it seperately. If you resist that temptation and use a...

Search.
I decided to eliminate the middle man. I got rid of all my mics and now just plug right into my mouth.
So my list is;
1. Mouth.
2. XLR cable.
Oh all right (sigh);
(1) AKG C12VR (indefinite loan)
(1) AKG D112
(3) AKG C1000s (w/hypercardioid caps)
(1) AKG C3000b (modified)
(5)...

The output is a bit lower than a condenser. What you lose in volume you make up for in robustness. You can really hit that mic hard and it won't crap out. That is the beauty of mics like this (incl. the Shure SM7). They work really well for very dynamic vocalists cause they can take...
Easy...
For me, hands down the AKG C12.
p.s. not to be confused with the C12VR which sounds nothing like an original C12.

YES! and NO!
I use that mic all the time for acoustic guitars. I would not describe it as brighter or clearer than the V67 at all. Just the opposite in fact, darker/rounder. It has a really nice upper-midrange quality that pokes out in mixes well. At $250 I would buy it anyway, it is one of...
Don't fret...
First things first, is your room controlled? If not, get crackin'. Take care of some of those early reflections, and any extraneous noise. If your room doesn't sound "warm, round, sweet, or whatever," acoustically, neither will your vocals. Concentrate on your mic technique...
yup.
I hear ya Bighand. I spend most of my day explaining compression basics to people on the phone.
The problem is that there is no one perfect baseline setting for a compressor. It is entirely dependent on the input level. So I tell them what each knob does and the artifacts to listen...

Thanks for pointing out my keyboard slip, I type too fast sometimes. Did you pass your most excellent suggestion on to marketing?
