Guitar 'truths" that you believe are myths

A few years ago I was looking for a 335. The best two I played were owned by a friend - a 59 and 61, neither were for sale and were more than I could pay. I played a few fantastic Historic models. I ended up buying a blonde 535 with a top Gibson would charge through the roof for. The headstock...

How do you organize your amps?

They took up too much room and were a PITA to get out and mic, so I wanted to get them a little more organized. Some company somewhere should come up with an amp storage thing like they sell guitar racks.

How do you organize your amps?

The table I had next to it was exactly the same height as well! I bought it about four Black Fridays ago. The thermostat went on it but I bought a new one on Amazon and it's been fine. The fridge is very handy. I keep it stocked with bottled water and I use that thing a ton!

How do you organize your amps?

I have an Axe FX, but I don't use it in my studio. It's for the drum monitors live. I find the opposite. My clients like that I get different sounds. These days with everyone using the same amp simulators, the same drum samples, and the same VIs and plugins I find what can set projects apart...

How do you organize your amps?

So today I found the perfect solution for my heads on FB Marketplace, where I had been searching for prob three years. Every shelf I found was either too big, too small, too far away, or too expensive. Finding something wide enough and shallow to save space was very difficult. $200 later and 20...

    Referencing a Mix on a Sh*tty Speaker

I have an old iPhone I can patch into. I've been using my monitors for a long time, and they're set up correctly. I find things translate fine. I do a mono check when I'm mixing.

Guitar 'truths" that you believe are myths

One of the reasons I don't poast on many online forums is that there is an echo chamber effect. I've been buying old guitars since the late 80s when I was delivering newspapers and cutting lawns, and have always bought what I liked. These days the bloozeman lusting after the TV yellow Jr is...

    GIBSON, FENDER, AND THE BLUES

Open blooze jam? This must be a trick question - I trade the guitar for a gun and the amp for a bullet and kill myself, only to find I'm already dead and stuck in one of Dante's circles of hell! Any of those would work fine. Any amp would as well.

Acoustic guitar, gut/nylon strings, standard (not classical) neck profile

Thanks! Mine is 214en. I'm not a Taylor fan, but I like their non-standard instruments. I have a baritone acoustic, the nylon, and a low-end 12 that I sold because I never used it. All very nice. The six strings don't do it for me. It's very modern sounding, which is great if that's what you're...

    Looking for a new Bass...

I would trade something for it. I use it a lot, so selling it isn't worth it.

    Looking for a new Bass...

Besides maybe two, I'm done buying guitars that will take me a while to find/afford. I sold a bunch of amps and have everything I want. Somehow, I fell into buying basses, so I'll play. I found this one so cheap that I couldn't not buy it at the Fall Philadelphia guitar show two years ago. I...

    Cool Vibes

I forget the brand but I had a set of headphones for a while on loan for a wireless review with no latency. They were expensive but very cool. I didn't want to give them up now I don't remember the brand. I don't think they made it.

How do you organize your amps?

I like recording with amps over sims. I don't have a ton of amps in my studio, but my goal is always covering different toanz vs a bunch of the same things. I bring things from my storage in/out once in a while. For a long time I was looking for a way to organize them. For a while I thought...

    Epiphone Special I

Very Cool! Years ago I worked in a store that had a white one of those and there was something about it that I loved. This would have been about 1998ish? Cool guitar!

Acoustic guitar, gut/nylon strings, standard (not classical) neck profile

I have the cheapest Taylor that they make. I don't know the model number, but it's MIM, which is precisely what you describe. A classical player would hate it. I like it. It plugs in and sounds good through a sound system. I like it for around the house as well. I don't remember what it cost...

What acoustic guitar recordings, or records that feature acoustic guitar, have what you consider great world class acoustic tone?

Lots of good examples here. In my experience, if you have a good acoustic, it's hard to record it and have it sound not good. Depending on the instrumentation and vocal acoustic can get in the way, but for the most part spend the money on the guitar before the mic!

Members average number of mics and a list...

I only have a few mics. I'll do my best. About 17 years ago I ditched all my cheap mics and started buying good ones one at a time, starting with my used MA-200. I have enough mics now to do whatever I need to, but if someone is recording alone at home I would say buy two or three great mics...
