Decent 8-channel mixer for recording and mixdown/mastering?

nah, you don't necessarily need balanced outs. unbalanced signals are perfectly compatible with balanced inputs. just make sure to buy very short patch cables and you won't experience much signal loss.

Decent 8-channel mixer for recording and mixdown/mastering?

as i already mentioned above. inserts are always unbalanced no matter what you use them for.

Decent 8-channel mixer for recording and mixdown/mastering?

every mixer with inserts allows you to use those as direct outs. however, those will be unbalanced only. the soundcraft spirit m series has direct outs for each mono channel.

Decent 8-channel mixer for recording and mixdown/mastering?

i wouldn't recommend the MG series mixers if you wanna record drums and electric guitars. while the pres do sound fairly good they tend to distort very easily. my vote goes to the Spirit M8

Subgroups via post fade Aux on Soundcraft Spirit M12

the reason i'm doing this is because i want to control the volume of the drums in my monitors with one fader instead of messing around with 4 to 6 faders or aux knobs every time i have to adjust the levels of the drums. btw, i think i know what you mean by unity gain except that i don't know...

Subgroups via post fade Aux on Soundcraft Spirit M12

hi guys, i bought a Soundcraft Spirit M12 which i'll be using in a recording/live monitoring hybrid setup at our practice space. the direct outs will go to my firewire 12ch interface in prefade mode while the main mix bus will be sent to a PA. since the mixer has no busses besides the main...

Mackie VLZpro XDR preamp question (for those who have one)

i have yet to find a quality mixer with pads on the pres. i'm sure about -16 yes. the manual refers to it as well as the printing on the surface of the mixer nexst to the trim pot. anyways, i sold that piece of shit mixer. what about the soundcraft M-Series? EDIT: what's with the hate...

Mackie VLZpro XDR preamp question (for those who have one)

I'm looking for a mixer with high quality pres that provide a good amount of head room. my question: when using the XLR mic inputs on the VLZpro series mixers with the trim knob turned down to zero what is the highest input level these pre's can deal with without clipping? i recently sold my...

am I mixing / mastering at vol levels too high for critical listening?

i mix at pretty high vol levels. my mixes/masters always turn out to be very bass heavy and are pretty much unleistenable. we recorded a song two days ago that sounded FANTASTIC at the practice space. i haven't listened on another system so far but today the drummer calls me to tell me that...

settings and tricks to ensure smooth playback? (lots of effects and tracks at a time)

alright thank you. i've been a cool edit user for over a decade. i know the locking feature. unfortunately it's still not smooth at all. i have 10 tracks right now. i already disabled the channel EQ and used a vst EQ before locking the tracks. also, i have 2GB of ddr RAM. i need some...

How to build a kick mic out of a 10" speaker?

so i tried this yesterday. simply amazing. i used a 10" rack tom, fit it in there and put it on a stand infront of the kick. it looks almost exactly like the yamaha subkick......just bigger. i sent the whole thing to a DI and then to the pre. the highs are pretty much useless and produce an...

How to build a kick mic out of a 10" speaker?

dear everybody, you know the subkick from yamaha, right? i've seen and heard of many recording engineers building additional kick mics out of speakers for even more low and and authentic bass reproduction. eg: http://www.radiohead.com/deadairspace/images/bandinaboxnewcrop.jpg looks like even...

bass guitar with tremolo effect....has it ever been done?

ugh, that's interesting. never thought about THAT! I was actually talking about the tremolo effect pedal that does what the vibrato channel on a fender amp does tho.
