    Sound dampening advice.

Hey all... lurker here. I don't post much but I read a good bit. Lots of very informative, intelligent people here. Ok so last night, I bought a new drum kit - Ludwig Element 6-piece, metallic gold/orange... it's a beautiful kit, and it sounds amazing. This is the first kit I've bought in 6...

    Should I go for it?

I just purchased the $60 license for Reaper, and it is VERY much worth it. This DAW is a bargain at that price, for what it's capable of doing. I used to use Audacity too, but then a friend showed me Reaper, and I haven't looked back since.

Whats a great DAW software for recording?

Another Reaper user here. I've been using Reaper (with my new laptop) since August and I LOVE it. You get a ton of bang for your buck, if you buy the private license. I am very satisfied with Reaper and I intend on using it for a while.

You know you're a crap drummer when...

That's how I am. I loved their early stuff, especially Justice. But then I learned that he spliced a lot of his drum parts together. It's no wonder that they never play "Dyer's Eve" live.

    Which Sticks Do You Use?

I use Pro-Mark 5As and 5Bs, mainly. Pro-Mark are the only ones that stand up to the abuse (lots of metal involved). I've tried Vic Firths over and over, and they just don't hold up. But I'll have a pair of 5As go show after show after show, with practices in between.

    Electronic Drum Kits

I've been playing drums for 13 years, and for the last 3 years, I've owned a Roland TD3 kit. It's a very basic electronic kit with a mesh snare, but I do enjoy it. It's no replacement for the real thing (and I'm kicking myself in the ass for ever selling my Pearls!), and they do take a lot of...

    Are you backed up?

I always back up my recordings. About twice a month. I use a WD Passport 120gb currently, but I want to get a much bigger one. 120gb isn't much. But yes, I always keep my stuff backed up. I've had instances before where I get a huge crash and lose most of my work. Not again!

What recording/mixing software are you using?

I've been using REAPER for a few months now and I'm very satisfied with it. All of my best recordings were done with REAPER so far.

    Drummer's perspective, or audiences?

I'm gonna skip through this whole thread because there's a lot of posts to catch up on for a forum noob like me. Anyway, I'm predominantly a drummer - been playing drums for 13 years, and guitar for 9. But personally to me, for some reason, I've always loved drums to be kinda set back in the...

Mixing a single guitar track, tricks

I've always preferred to just record two separate guitar tracks, instead of copying just one. I often play different chords (I'm a HUGE fan of counterpoint), so I always record separate tracks anyway. But even if I'm going to play the same parts on both tracks, I still record them separately...
