    Best Mic under 500$

+1 on the bluebird. AT's are very good, but if you can A/B them you will choose the B-Bird every time.

    Who Destroyed Metal?

Quite right. It is very much alive in all forms. I saw a few videos of guys today doing the hair metal thing..costumes and all:drunk: The thing is that for a decade it was partially mainstream, so you hair band haters should look at the fact that no other metal type (maybe Mettalica) has ever...

Any bizarre tips for vocal training

One of the best vocal trainers out there Bret Manning says that singing is just an extension of speaking. If you sing loudly and with lotsa wind, you'll just go hoarse faster. Try singing at speaking levels. No straining. No excessive breathing. He does sell an entire program for a couple...

    Anybody use Whotune?

Agreed. The musical gene pool could use a little chlorine:p

Best budget microphones for live performances ( anything better than Shure SM58?)

I think the going exchange rate is about 10 to 1, so 500 Yen is about $50. Forget about the Nuemann.

Best voice effects processors for live performances

I like the TC Helicon's first voice live better than the newest. They can be had used for about $400. There are a ton of parameters and settings which can be very overwhelming. If you just want some simple stuff, TC sells a smaller version, the Voice Create. The effects are the best I have...

Just throw it up & see if it sticks...

It's called "Like that sugar" from Thunder Harp. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/thunderharp (the samples cut out some of the goody's though)

Just throw it up & see if it sticks...

What I really meant is that it's the FANS doing the marketing for them via word of mouth. Even with ReverbNation people have to take the time to find you. I have produced a CD that I really think could appeal to a lot of people. I have studied and tried many of the approaches, yet very little...

    Wal-Mart at Midnight - Greg_L original crap

Owweeeeeeeeee! Love it. Now I thinks I'll be breaking out the Ramones box set and the model glue. Been too long!

Just throw it up & see if it sticks...

I have been frequenting a lot of concerts lately with my 16 year old daughter. I'm seeing a ton of bands doing the same ole thing right now. Just like the big hair band days of yester-year they are simply cashing in on what's hip. (same with the billionaire guy who invented those 1 cent wrist...

Combining two versions of the same track?

I rarely ever have just one vocal track going on. For leads, I have 1 track full and centered and another recorded track (not copy paste) a bit lower in volume and panned right 60%. You need to make sure the tracks are timed about perfect for that. For back ups I use any where from 4 to 8...

    The Big Can't Sing List

Geddy Monotone? He might not have any variety but he has a great range. He can really sing. I like variety in the voice tone, so he's not one of my favs. When it gets to who can't sing...Lou Reed. Can't sing. They should not let him. Who do I hate? Bruce Springsteen. Sounds like a guy with...

    can't get a good sound P90

Yes it has a volume. I might suspect the quality is lacking because rolling it off reduces some hi end and thats what I'm after. I think it might just be the position. The other worry is that I might end up cutting through some critical bracing if I get out the router.

I'm just getting started!... And a little lost!

EZ drummer is a good product to start with. $100. You can't tweak the rythems, but there are tons to choose from. They are actual recorded drums and there is a "humanize" button that gives it a tad touch of a realistic player.

Best Effects units to record direct?

Lots of posts on this. Do a search. Also do a search for "why can't I get a good guitar sound using modelers?" Tons of those too

    can't get a good sound P90

I'm sure if it was a strat single coil, I could get it. They are just what I want. I would think a P90 is like a 'bucker with single coil snap. Guess They are not. I suppose my search for the ultimate guitar goes on. The real T5 has a lipstick (or rather lip-shit) pup in the bridge position...

Thoughts on my new Orange Thunder 30 head

It's like anything else. Orange people just don't dig Mesas and visa versa. Some guys like the darker tone. I prefer punchy and a bit brighter. I would not use an orange if I owned it, though I still want one deep inside. The comment about good guitars vs. bad ones really is true. Try a vintage...

    can't get a good sound P90

OK I have this Crafter guitar. Basically a Taylor T5 copy. The acoustic pickup is spectacular sounding. The electric..not so much. It's a Kent Armstrong P90 in the neck position. It does sound good if you like the warm soft tone, but what I want is a bit more bite and a little crisper high end...
