Hey Cory,
Have you tried the Omni pattern on the B3? I used to own one (I really quite liked it but I had to sell it to finance a c414 TL-II) and I found the omni pattern to be vastly superior to the cardioid for recording anything with a 'harsh' quality. I believe the omni freq response scoops...
Hi folks,
My B67 has started giving me sass. After being off for a week or so while I was on vacation it started turning the reels at a noticeably slower speed (for both 15 and 7.5ips). I'm quite sure it's not the pinch roller. And the tension seems ok. Some days it works fine though. Could it...
Wow, are you sure about that? I really hope that's true. I use high output tape exclusively, but I always harboured some guilt over the belief I'd be wearing out my heads faster.
FWIW I've been using mostly RMG SM900 (plus one reel of ATR) on my Tascam 58 at a +6 operating level for a while now...
This is a bit of an aside, but did you folks know that the majority of places that cut vinyl lacquers will put the programme through a digital delay to make their job easier. From what i understand, a special master 2-track with a 'preview head' is usually required if you want a full analogue...
Here in Montreal, one of our electronics parts shops stocks these guys. I ended up buying four of them over the course of the last couple years (one for my 58-OB, another for the MS-16, one for the B-67 and the last one for a poor man's mixer sidecar to house my patch bays.) I think they're...
Sadly, I have to second sweetbeets' opinion here--you really ought to spring for an Annis Han D Mag. They're the real deal.
On the bright side, they hold their value very well should you ever decide to sell it.
Golden Mastering asks for the following:
You might want to email the mastering house you have in mind though, they could have slightly different preferences. Good luck!
You're begging the question. That statement seems to make the rather lofty assumption that not only does modern science have the ear-brain combo completely figured out, but sound reproduction is a simple enough concept that we can judge 'good sound' by the set of easily measured specs that come...
hmmmm they updated the homepage text and added a 2nd salesman contact name. I wonder if it will happen? It's still weird that they don't mention anything about re-releasing 456.
great!
just send an email to freelovefenner@gmail.com if you want me to add you as a collaborator.
also, if anyone is so inclined i could add them as a site 'owner' -- the only difference with that is that you have the right to change the site layout, invite people, monkey around with the...
hey even if you can put up a picture of your machines that would be a start. and don't sell yourself short. think of how much more you know compared to, say, last year...
send me your email and i'll make you a contributor.
What a drag cory. Just remind yourself that once you've got it working, it's gonna be a tank. My 58 hasn't given me any sass at all in a year of pretty heavy use.
Have you tried removing all the amp cards? Perhaps there's an arc in there somewhere?
hi all,
I just started a little reel-to-reel wiki (hosted on a free google sites page). There's a lot of great information out there on tape machines but it's often pretty difficult to find. If anyone is interested in contributing just send me your email.
I'm sadly kinda busy these day (full...
:o i kinda did the opposite. i attached the drain to ground and fused the red and white connectors to +. this setup hasn't given me any sass..yet. anyone know if this is problematic? the cable runs are generally pretty short. maybe the longest ones are 4 or 5 feet.
I've been using foil shielded three connector cable. The price is pretty reasonable if you buy enough of it. They didn't have any 2 connector cable. I had to make quite a few balanced cables (like from my demeter reverb>fostex 5030) so i figured (correctly?) that it wouldn't make a difference. I...
The neutrik cables i use are very easy to solder. i tried some of their high end made-in-Liechtenstein ones but they were a bit tougher to solder; uncomfortably tight to plug into the m520; not to mention mega pricey.
I only had to pay something like 52cents each for the NYS352.
For the cable i...
we're living parallel lives cory!
i just ordered 2 of the very same units last week. fedex says they left Syracuse for Montreal in the wee hours of this morning.
I also bought a box of 100 neutrik NYS352 rca plugs (you can save BIG buying these in bulk). my fingertips are slightly burnt...
The legendary Studer J37s used at Abbey Road were 1" 4 tracks so that kinda track real estate isn't unprecedented. I read that the Beatles tapes on that format have remarkably low tape hiss (they used CCIR/IEC eq curves too--so that may have helped).
Hey,
My tape shelf is looking pretty horrible now. I was just curious how everyone here is storing their tapes? In the vinyl record world the Ikea Expedit shelf is a pretty standard choice. Anything similarly well suited for reels? Or are you folks building your own storage units?
