There is another post about click tracks that was going around not too long ago and the thing most people agreed upon was when you can play to a click track you usually don't need one and if you can't that is when you need one which pretty much defeats the purpose of them. The thing that has...
been there my man, I've found if the person is opened minded and not defensive when criticized you can help him. First I would ask him what is it he is listening to when he plays many people either listend to themselves, listen to the words, or listen to the guitar. As a drummer he should be...
This has been a really interesting thread lot great info here, I do combinations of most of this stuff the singing thing works good even if you can't play what your singing you end up playing something that you wouldn't have played if you weren't singing.
Something to keep in mind is that no...
no real answer for this thread thought it was kind of interesting to see what everyone said as stupid as it is
best guitarist depends so much on taste how can you be objective?
would best guitarist be best techinique?
most original?
best tone?
just to throw in my two sense I would throw up...
Yes I do I'm still stuck in the analog world arghhh! That sounds like a good guess on the fostex machine now that I think about it I use to use it at band practice it was so easy to run we would record all our practices with it so by the time I started home recording I'm sure it had a lot of...
I know this does not answer the original post but I was curious I use to have a fostex and did experience a loss of high end when bouncing so I would use the same method as M. Brane I know own (for a couple of years) a tascam 488mkII, I don't hear the same loss of high end when bouncing and have...
cranky I don't think you have to stop singing to waste air nice crack on your self though, if that was your first attempt I would say you get an A for effort maiden is not the easiest thing to sing you may want to try something a little easier as for the mix I thought the guitar was a little...
I"ve miked my bass cabinet and gone direct at the same time for recording purposes used different eq'ing etc I have noted that if panned too far apart they take up a lot of room in the mix and depending on the song can really get in the way also makes for a lot of low end action I've had trouble...
depending on the type of music can also make the click lame, such accents on top of the beat for a drummer just won't feel the same with a click and anything with a blues or jazz feels just isn't happening with a click either I have a drum machine that I prefer to play the parts by hand rather...
Dres, I can play with a click track without slowing or speeding up and I still think they suck, they give the song a mechanical feel which seems impossible to lose, I myself record with a friend and we lay the first two tracks down together to create the groove then add the the rest.
I agree totally Mike, as a bass player I use the same line of thinking you do if the drummer is a "busy" style player I will tend to "stay home" if he more of a lock in the beat type I will tend to fill up more of the space at the same time it also depends on what else is going on around me are...
Although I'm a newbie in recording I've been a bass player for over 20 years and have played with many drummers, the answer to your question depends
1 on what the song calls for
2 the style of the people playing
I find locking in with the kick drum and groovin is the most enjoyable experience a...
Yeah fellow Rhode Islander!!! good eye I didn't even catch that at first, most of my stuff is a two man operation jazz standards, blues, traditional country all clean guitar tones, boss dr660 for the drums
Gec, that was great info and very interesting thanks for all us newbies, I'm still in analog world and have been considering and saving to go to the digital realm.
I was wondering about the preamp would this be used for all instruments being recorded such as guitars bass etc?
I was considering...
I'm looking for suggestions on mixing background vocals such as should they be compressed if so how much? 4 to 1 etc.. how about reverb or delay I have experimented with all of these but would be interested in hearing what some of you have to say
Thanks
I agree on the eq'ing stuff no matter what effects you add or don't how you eq two things taking up one space in the pan universe is going to make the difference, and as was mentioned it all depends on what kind of music you are recording or further still what the kick and bass mean in that...
If your interested in suggestions I've never tried putting a delay on the bass in the way you have suggested but I have put a very sutle delay on the kick to fatten it up not enough to hear the actual delay then I compress it 10-1 found this gets a really big kick drum sound.
That was interesting people, yes I'm currently mixing down eight tracks from my tascam to a two track kenwood so from what i understand with a a/d converter and some software I can get a better two track mix from my eight track analog masters but if I just went straight into the cpu it would not...
